Managing Care for Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders in Rural Emergency Departments
Our next webinar focuses on the Behavioral Health Assessment Officer (BHAO) model to increase access to mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) care in rural communities. A BHAO is a licensed behavioral health provider working in a rural emergency department (ED), who evaluates and manages care for patients identified at screening to have behavioral health concerns. Since individuals may see the ED as a more anonymous place to seek care than a mental health or SUD treatment setting, having a BHAO in the ED can help address stigma. BHAOs bring understanding of the unique rural community they serve. They listen to community voices, understand local strengths and barriers, and navigate resources with skill. We hope you'll join us on August 10th!
