Cloud-to-Cloud Backups

More and more people are storing work in the cloud and that trend seems likely to continue. It makes sense - why rely on a physical drive that may have limited space and could suffer hardware failure when you could use the ease of the cloud and access documents from multiple locations.

Of course, despite the relative safety of many cloud platforms, there is always risk. Bad actors are always looking to breach essentially any system. For many of the cloud systems in use, they are connected to email which is one of the most heavily-targeted areas online.

Over the past year or so, these bad actors who are successful in breaching emails may also begin to delete cloud data if they are given enough time. Of course, the primary goal is simply to prevent a breach, but what would happen if a bad actor got that far.

Even in instances where there is no bad actor, we've all found we've accidentally deleted the wrong file - and sometimes that realization comes long after the data can be recovered.

Backups have long been something that anyone in IT has preached and that is no different with files in the cloud than it is with those stored locally. Backups remain important and that's why systems have been developed to backup data such as emails, OneDrive, SharePoint, etc. It is strongly recommended that, if your organization relies on systems like this, that you have a method to back that very data up.
