Multiple Monitors and Productivity
As time has gone on, people have increasingly expected more and more from their computers. From more advanced operating systems to the use of more programs and applications, the requirements have continually risen. One aspect that many may not think about, however, is the monitors.
With so many programs in use, there is often a bottleneck of what users can work on due to a limitation on screen space. This means that adding a second monitor to your setup could help to alleviate this bottleneck and increase productivity.
In fact, there are research studies that have looked at just this. One, "Productivity and Multi-Screen Computer Displays" published in the Rocky Mountain Communication Review, found a multi-monitor setup had participants, "6 percent quicker to task, 7 percent faster on task, 10 percent more producti[ve], 16 percent faster in production, [with] 33 percent fewer errors, and 18 percent faster in errorless production".
Of course, the level of benefit will be based upon the tasks that any particular user might be assigned to complete. Whether that benefit will be worth the cost to add monitors would have to be decided by your organization.
