Point to Point Wireless Systems
Imagine having the same Wi-Fi network available in multiple locations. It actually may not be as crazy as it seems. With advancements that have been made in point-to-point wireless systems, it may actually be quite feasible.
With a point to point system in place, the network in place at one building/location could actually be extended to a second building/location. Essentially, although the user may be located in the second building, the computers would function as though they were in the primary building. It's a very convenient setup for organizations who may have separated locations for purposes of different functions or something like that, but where users will be needing all of the same access to local functions and/or protection.
It should be noted there are some restrictions to the usefulness of these bridges, however. First, the locations should be reasonably close - the further away the locations get, the more potential there is for problems like slowness to crop up at the second location. There will also need to be a clear line of sight between the two buildings.
In the past two years or so, our office has deployed many of these systems to clients where this type of setup is beneficial to the operations. If you'd like to discuss if something like this may make sense for your organization, please feel free to reach out to our offices to discuss.
