The State of QuickBooks
QuickBooks is a program that many small and medium sized organizations rely on to manage their accounting data. As such, we thought it might be useful to cover a few things that have been coming up a bit more as of late for many of our partners as they may be useful information to you.
The first big item is that all new versions of the program operate on a subscription model. As with most other software vendors, gone are the days where you pay once and then have that program for life. This means that any new version of the program or any upgrade that gets done will be moving to this model. It's something to keep in mind for many organizations that may be looking to upgrade and may not have experienced the subscription model in the past.
There is also something to keep in mind that you can run QuickBooks locally or in the Cloud. While our partners have noted that the cloud version is functional, it should be noted that these reports also indicate the two versions of the product do not always look or function in the same manner, so any organization looking to make a transition should consider this.
Those who may have an older, non-subscription model sometimes have a reason to try to maintain that old version for some reason, be it the organization being wound down, simple historical record keeping, or something along those lines. While many of these older versions may not be recommended for much active use, it may be possible to get these versions onto newer hardware with the right data. This is something our office would be happy to discuss with you if it's something you may be in need of.
Please feel free to reach out to our offices should you have something you'd like to discuss with our offices. While we do not specifically endorse any specific accounting package, we have experience supporting systems around them and would be happy to share our thoughts with you.
