US Funding Computer Chip Manufacturing Infrastructure

It may be one of the things you remember from the COVID-19 pandemic: supply chain issues. More specifically related to IT was the trouble companies had getting their hands on computer chips in order to complete orders. This was something that made it not only difficult to get laptops, but other items like cars.

Much of the issue stemmed from the fact that one region in China was responsible for producing a majority of the chips used worldwide. That's why the government has announced funding (a few $100 million) in order to expand the infrastructure throughout the US that participates in manufacturing these semiconductors.

This is good news for the future as it should alleviate any potential similar issues due to whatever may come up down the line. Of course, these improvements will take some time to build and be completed, so the effects won't be seen immediately, but it should help with the supply chain eventually.

Despite this, we do still recommend that organizations that have users that simply cannot be down for a day or more try to keep some spare units on site as these improvements may prevent longer delays but will not help with short delays such as shipping.

If you're interested in getting some additional computers or other IT infrastructure items in place at your organization for quick fixes that will limit downtime from issues, please feel free to reach out to our offices and discuss what the best investments for that may be for your organization.

We strive to look out for the best interest of our customers and their procurement in the IT venue. Be it hardware, software or service related, we want to guide you in the most effective manner possible.
