Microsoft Quietly Extends Window 10 ESU For Home Users
Microsoft is, unsurprisingly, making another concession for home users. In a bit of a secret move that came without and official announcement, Microsoft has added another year of Extended Support Updates (ESU) for home users, extending updates to those that had or do sign up into October 2027.
The date being pushed back is strictly applicable to home users and units - organizational devices remain subject to the End of Life from last year or purchasing ESU at a higher price. It's not the first time Microsoft has extended extra time to home user, but this time it comes as RAM, hard drive, and most recently processors have seen their prices rise dramatically and that has caused things that need those parts, such as computers, to rise significantly with them.
For those home units that were already enrolled, nothing else is needed to get the additional year of extended updates. For those not enrolled, the method of getting an ESU license remains the same: back up Windows settings by logging into a Microsoft account, redeem 1000 Microsoft Rewards points, or the least favorite option of paying $30.
Again, this is NOT applicable to organizational devices. While most organizations have already migrated to Windows 11, it is important for those that have not completed that task yet to plan on doing so ASAP as those devices will not receive updates without a license that costs several hundred dollars per year.
If you would like to discuss migrating off of any Windows 10 devices you may still have running, please feel free to reach out to our offices.
