News and resources for New Mexico's innovators

FROM THE DIRECTOR

Welcome to the launch of the New Mexico Technology and Innovation Office (TIO) Newsletter!

Created in 2025, the New Mexico Technology and Innovation Office works to accelerate the startup, growth, and relocation of technology-based industries in and to the state, with a focus on four key sectors: advanced computing, advanced energy, aerospace and defense systems, and bioscience.

Through non-dilutive funding for early-stage companies, grants that strengthen the innovation ecosystem, and hands-on business assistance delivered by sector-specific experts, TIO helps innovators turn promising ideas into market-ready solutions.

New Mexico offers a uniquely powerful environment for innovation, with national laboratories, specialized technology incubators, a business- and R&D-friendly tax climate, and a growing network of public and private investment funds.

ICYMI: the state made unprecedented investments in innovation-based economic development in the 2026 legislative session, including:

  • $110 million for the Research, Development & Deployment Fund, including $40 million for quantum initiatives and $40 million for advanced energy initiatives
  • $49.3 million for the Quantum Frontiers Project, a partnership between the state and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency Quantum Benchmarking Initiative
  • $38 million to establish a centralized open user facility for applied quantum information science research, including workforce training space and collaboration with national laboratories
  • $15 million for New Mexico innovation hubs
  • $11.6 million for TIO grants supporting small businesses, entrepreneurs, startups and research and development in science and technology sectors
  • $10 million for quantum innovation projects to solidify New Mexico as an industry hub
  • $10 million for higher education partnerships supporting endowed faculty positions and postdoctoral researchers across New Mexico institutions
  • $3 million to continue to support the Quantum New Mexico Institute

This newsletter is one way TIO fosters connection and collaboration across New Mexico’s innovation ecosystem. Whether you are an entrepreneur, founder, researcher, investor, or simply interested in cutting-edge technologies, our goal is to provide information that is useful, timely, and actionable.

Each issue will highlight funding opportunities, policy updates, success stories, upcoming events, and practical ways to engage with the ecosystem. We invite you to explore, connect, and help shape the future of New Mexico by supporting the emerging industries that diversify and strengthen our economy.
