Technology Changes in Education
How Has Technology Changed Education ?
Technology has impacted almost every aspect of life today, and education is no exception. Or is it? In some ways, education seems much the same as it has been for many years. Technology in Education was a debatable topic with teachers for a period of time.
Everyone had their own views on modernizing education and making it technology aided. In
NCEA’s March Teacher Survey 72%
of the responses indicated that smartphones are incorporated in class discussions and theory lessons. Technology and education as indicated in the NCEA Survey are a great combination if used together to present knowledge in a variety of formats.
However, because of instant access to information and educational opportunity that technology has enabled, in many classrooms today we see the teacher’s role shifting to the “guide on the side” as students take more responsibility for their own learning using technology to gather relevant information. Teachers are creative, intelligent people, and once they learn to use technology in their professional lives -- for keeping records, creating documents, and for enhancing their own learning -- they will soon discover the many ways in which technology can support the learning process.
Technology is not meant to replace the teacher. Rather, the idea is to create a flexible learning environment that breed innovation. Technology shifts the classroom to a more collaborative learning environment. Technology lends itself to exploration. Success in both teaching and learning will depend upon how technology is applied to keep students engaged.
It is an exciting time to be teaching, seize this moment to challenge yourself to make the best use of multidisciplinary lessons. Technology is a tool that can change the nature of learning.
Finally, teachers must educate
on how to best use technology tools to enhance teaching and learning.
