Wish your station could offer paid engineering/ media technology internship but don't have the budget for it? PIL OT , in partnership with the NAB Educational Foundations (NABEF), will award a limited number of NAB member stations a Technology Internship Grant to provide paid engineering or media technology internships to undergraduate students interested in pursuing tech careers in our industry. The goal is to attract, train and retain tech talent in the broadcast industry, while helping stations create a sustainable internship program. Interested stations must complete an online application for a part-time Summer 2019 internship to be considered. ( Interns need not be selected by the station prior to application, but the internship's duties will need to be described.)
The application window for Spring 2019 internships is open now, and closes August 15, 2018.

Active Shooter Training- Time is Running Out! Deadline is August 20! Two Locations!
Did you know that 80% of all active shooter incidents occur at the workplace? Approximately two million people a year are affected by workplace violence. It is almost impossible to solve these types of issues if the place of employment does not see it as a problem. Remember, knowledge is power and your ability to act and react may depend on your training.

The KBA Active Shooter Training will convene in Frankfort from 9 to 4:30pm on Tuesday, August 28 and in Owensboro, KY from 9 to 4:30pm on Thursday, August 30, 2018. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. The training day is divided- the first half of the day will be classroom instruction and the second half of the day will be safety simulation to allow for greater retention. The second portion is not required, but highly encouraged.

In light of the recent events in Anapolis, the KBA is offering this training free to its members. So please take advantage. To register contact Karen Mucci at (502)848-0426 or email karen@kba.org.

KBA President/CEO
I am so pleased to announce that current Federal Communications Commissioner, Michael O' Rielly, has accepted my invitation to be the keynote luncheon speaker on Tuesday, October 9th, at KBA's Annual Conference in Bowling Green.

Commissioner O' Rielly was nominated for a seat on the Federal Communications Commission by President Barack Obama and was sworn into office in November 2013.

In January 2015, he was confirmed and sworn into office for a second term, which extends until June 3, 2019. Prior to joining the agency, Commissioner O' Rielly spent almost 290 years working in prominent Republican communication policy and leadership positions for the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S.Senate. Most recently he served as Policy Advisor in the Office of the Senate Republican Whip, led by U.S. Senator John Cronyn (R-TX).

Commissioner O' Rielly received his B.A. from the University of Rochester. Having spent time with the Commissioner recently, I am confident that you will not only enjoy the opportunity to hear directly from the FCC Commissioner, but also his candor and support for the work that broadcasters do on a daily basis to serve their communities and listeners. If you haven't registered for the KBA Conference, please do so today.
