Electric School Buses in Miami-Dade Thanks to Student & EPA

Middle schooler lobbied the Miami-Dade School Board about converting to electric buses in 2019. The district now has 50 electric buses replacing ones that spew diesel exhaust. This will double thanks to a $20 million grant through the U.S. EPA.

Out-of-School-Time Learning: What Works and What We Still Want to Know

This talk will share resources including the What Works Clearinghouse through the Institute of Education Sciences and other databases to help providers and researchers understand what works in Out of School Time (OST) settings. Further, we will examine ongoing research in the field and consider what research questions need to be answered to move the OST research agenda forward. An overview of the research regarding creating positive learning environments—what are best practices in working with the whole child--physical, social, and emotional will be included.
