Coming in October....
...we have a lot going on for Teens to get involved. Teen Read Week is October 13-19. Both of our book clubs will be meeting, as well as our TAB which has started off with great success.
Our Teen area is also in the midst of a face-lift. I encourage you to stop by and check out the new look!

#TeenReadWeek will kick off with the Bookface Challenge. Students are encouraged to find a book with a face on its cover, and replace their own with it. Based on creativity, a winner will be selected on Monday and will receive a $20 giftcard.

Weeding is a neccisary evil at a library. As part of #teenreadweek we will be letting the people who read the books, and have the best idea as to what should be kept and what should be pitched, have a voice. Don't worry, I still have the final say...but it's a chance to see first hand why books need to go in order to make room for new ones.

We will be hosting another contest on Wednesday. Teens can stop into the library and guess how many books we have in our teen collection. The person closest without going over will also receive a $20 giftcard prize.
|
The library will be hosting a movie night, showing the popular book-to-movie "Divergent" rated PG-13. This movie is FREE and open to Teens 6-12th grade. It will start at 6pm and should finish around 8. Popcorn will be provided.
|
We will be hosting our first ever after-hours capture the flag event inside the library from
7-8 pm. Teens will need to sign up at the front desk before the event as space will be limited to 15 teens per team.
We are also in need of adult volunteers to help supervise this event. If we do not get enough volunteers the event will be cancelled. If you are interested in helping out, please contact me via email or by calling the library at
402-461-2346.

As part of the third annual Downtown Hastings Zombie walk, we will be celebrating our inner Zombies.
We will be hosting Zombie make-up lessons from 2-3pm for those interested in learning how to turn themselves into the undead.
For those who just want us to make them up for the walk, we will be applying make-up once again from 3:30-5pm.
Finally, to top the night off, after the walk we will be showing the movie "Warm Bodies" rated PG-13, served with some frightening food.
The afternoon events are open to anybody interested, but the movie is reserved for Teens grades 6-12.
|
To finish off #teenreadweek, we will be doing a "librarian challenge." This means, if we can get at least 100 teens to submit titles of books they've read during that week...I'm going to do something stupid. The challenge has yet to be set, but will announced before the week starts. Books can be submitted to the front desk, or via an online form that will hit the website that Monday.
