Behind on home loan payments or related expenses?

The Texas Homeowner Assistance Program offers financial aid to qualified Texas homeowners struggling with mortgage, utility payments, and related expenses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The program provides grants to cover past due and up to three months of future mortgage payments, property taxes, insurance, homeowner/condo association fees, and utility payments, including electricity, natural gas, propane, water, and wastewater.


Tejano Center is proudly partnering with the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) to provide homeowners FREE and CONFIDENTIAL in-person and virtual assistance. Homeowners must meet program requirements to receive free help. The program is administered by the TDHCA with funding provided by the Homeowner Assistance Fund under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. RYSS February Book Fair A Big Success

We are proud to report that the RYSS Scholastic Book Fair held earlier this year during the month of February was a great success. This year's sales exceeded the previous year by over 100%. The 560 books sold during the span of a week represent 67,272 minutes of reading. How great is that!


Congratulations to Librarian, Ms. Guadalupe Calixto, for the success with the Scholastic Spring Book Fair. RYSS now qualifies for the return of a book fair in the fall which will offer a wider selection of books for everyone! We thank all parents, teachers, and staff for particpating and making this a successful event.

Blood Pressure Kiosk

In a ribbon-cutting last week, we celebrated the addition of a mobile blood pressure kiosk donated by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. It now complements La Tiendita's case management model that's already benefitting the commmunity at large.


We thank Houston Food Bank and American Heart Association - Texas for their support and partnership in raising awareness about the threat of cardiovascular disease and providing interventions to lower these statistics. We're Making It Happen Together!

National Child Abuse Prevention Month

A message from Tejano Center's Resolve Program

In 2020, Child Protective Services (CPS) agencies received an estimated 3.9 million child abuse and neglect referrals that included approximately 7.1 million children, with an estimated 1,750 deaths. In 2019, Texas alone had 64,093 victims of child abuse or neglect.

 

If you, or anyone you know, has ever been a victim of child abuse or neglect, call RESOLVE at 713.640.3762. If you are actively being victimized by child abuse and you can safely reach out for help, call 9-1-1. If you know of or suspect a child is being abused, contact CPS at 800.252.5400.

Homebuyer Education Classes

The journey to homeownership is an exciting one and the single most prominent indicator of the fulfilled American dream. For many, it is one of the most important assets that builds financial security, but preparing to purchase a home can be a daunting experience, too.


Our Housing Services offers an eight hour homebuyer education course that covers the “Realizing the American Dream” NeighborWorks curriculum. The classes are conducted once a month in both English and Spanish. For more information call 713-640-3743.

RYSS School Market

The RYSS School Market is a food distribution initiative for the entire community that is made possible by the Houston Food Bank.


The RYSS School Market, coordinated by Tejano Center's La Tiendita is run by RYSS students where they earn volunteer hours, develop and strengthen their social skills, all which will contribute to their college and scholarship applications.


The next School Market food distribution is on Thursday, April 27 from 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM.

Tejano Center is organizing grassroots groups and individuals located in south, southeast communities to create networks of trained individuals and community groups who can assist community residents prepare, respond to and recover from disasters and public health emergencies and to mitigate the negative impact of disasters and public health issues on communities.

The Consulate General of Mexico in Houston is pleased to announce the launching of the XXVII Children's Drawing Contest "This is my Mexico" with the central theme: "Species, Oceans and Seas of Mexico".

East End Learning Center

Free classes & workshops for youth & adults

East End Learning Center will be providing free workshops and classes for both youth and adults and are free to the public.


The workshops and classes are focused on STEM learning, content creation and digital fabrication. The learning center will have a laser cutter/engraver, 3D printer, podcasting equipment, photography equipment, robotics, and coding.
