The Town has approved the location of a new Telus communications tower that will improve cell coverage to residents that have had poor cellular service for many years.
Currently, there is unreliable wireless service in the vicinity of Eaglecrest and Chartwell neighbourhoods. As a result, TELUS approached the Town to install a new communication tower in the area, with two site options proposed.
Initially the Town granted conditional land use concurrence to a site at 845 Village Way. However, the Town recently abandoned negotiations on this site and has now approved a location at 2045 Island Highway. Council initiated this change in location in response to community input and to mitigate the visual impact of the tower when approaching Qualicum Beach from the east.
“Residents in Eaglecrest have struggled with poor coverage for many years, and the Town has received numerous requests to improve personal safety and emergency preparedness by supporting dependable cellular coverage. We are pleased that Telus has come forward with a solution that addresses this community need.” – Mayor Brian Wiese
