A Message from the City Manager

Greetings-

With the multiple fires we have witnessed throughout Southern California and the western states, we strongly encourage Temecula residents and businesses to follow these 3 steps now, or as soon as possible:

1) Ensure all members of your family who have a cell phone are signed up to receive emergency alerts at TemeculaCA.gov/Alerts. For Temecula businesses, please share this with employees too.

2) Remove debris on your property, and clear landscape away from your home and structures. The space around your home will provide firefighters a safer area to defend your property, and it is key to slowing or stopping the spread of wildfire. There are many tips to take action now to protect your property (from embers, flames and heat) on the following sites: fire.ca.gov/home-hardening and readyforwildfire.org/prepare-for-wildfire/defensible-space/

3) Prepare your household’s emergency supply of necessities. Utilities are often unavailable during natural disasters, and grocery stores may be closed or inaccessible. Also, in case of an evacuation, have a packed bag of items ready to go. See below photo of suggested emergency supplies, and research online more ideas of items you may need or want to include as part of your emergency supplies.

In addition to the top 3 steps listed above, below is additional information from our Emergency Operations at the City of Temecula to help you prepare and stay connected with the City in case of a natural disaster or emergency:

• During a Citywide emergency, check our website TemeculaCA.gov for alerts and links.

• Follow @CityofTemecula on Facebook as the primary social media source for the City's emergency updates.

• The City may (secondarily) also post on X and/or Instagram @CityofTemecula.

• Download the City’s Mobile App for disaster preparedness information (and more) at TemeculaCA.gov/App.

• Learn other ways to stay informed by visiting the Temecula Office of Emergency Management (OEM) webpage at TemeculaCA.gov/BeInformed. Stay up to date on Emergency Preparedness with the Temecula Ready Newsletter.

• Since you are receiving this newsletter, you are signed up to receive Citywide News & Updates at TemeculaCA.gov/SignUp; however, please share this link with your Temecula community of friends, family and colleagues so they can sign up too.

• Review local emergency plans to understand the City's preparedness strategies at TemeculaCA.gov/LocalEmergencyPlans.

• Interested in volunteering for Temecula Citizens Corps? Visit TemeculaCA.gov/CitizenCorps to learn more.

• A backpack filled with helpful emergency supplies can be purchased through the “Temecula Store” at TemeculaCA.gov/EmergencyPack.

It is worth summarizing the top 3 steps (again) that should be done as soon as possible: (1) register for emergency alerts at TemeculaCA.gov/Alerts, (2) harden your home, business and property to protect it from wildfire, and (3) stock up on emergency supplies including a to-go bag in case of an evacuation.

Temecula Fire Chief John Crater assisted in the "Airport Fire" guiding a man and his dog to safety in the El Cariso neighborhood, west of Lake Elsinore. As shared on social media by CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department, and picked up by multiple media sources across the country, both the man and his dog were safely evacuated. Thank you to our Fire Chief!
