A Message from the City Manager

Summer is here and the weather is heating up. This issue will share some safe summer fun for you and your family to enjoy in Temecula.

Here at City Hall, the new Fiscal Year starts tomorrow, and all major funds are exceeding projections. Our local economy has rebounded better than expected. We estimate that revenues in the upcoming fiscal year will be $103 million, exceeding operating expenditures of approximately $92 million of which 57% is designated for Public Safety and remains our highest priority. The City continues to maintain primary and secondary reserve funds totaling nearly $23 million, or 25% of our annual operating costs which is prudent to do as a City for emergency planning.

As we progress through the pandemic recovery era, and in an effort to continue supporting our local economy especially in light of rising prices for gas, food, and housing, I'm proud to announce that, in a vote which won unanimous approval by the Temecula City Council, $2.2 million in City funding will be allocated to support eligible nonprofit charitable programs that benefit Temecula residents.  As stated best by Mayor Rahn in a related press release published by my office today, "Temecula is infusing an unprecedented amount into the community; it is the highest total sum ever made available by the City to nonprofit organizations during any year in Temecula's history -- and we'll do this two years in a row. These grants will come as a relief at a critical time now when inflationary concerns are an issue."

The City's annual nonprofit organization grant program entitled Community Service Funding has historically awarded up to $5,000 per nonprofit organization, for a total of $100,000 budgeted annually. This Fiscal Year, beginning July 1, 2022, and next Fiscal Year, beginning July 1, 2023, the program will be revitalized as Community Service Funding - Reinvestment in Temecula and the budgeted amount will be increased by $1 million to $1.1 million each year for a total of $2.2 million over two years. Eligible nonprofit organizations are invited to apply for a grant up to $50,000 each year to fund services or programs that serve Temecula residents.

Grant funds are not anticipated to be used for large capital projects, such as building improvements, but rather to pay for expenses associated with charitable goods and services that specifically benefit those who live in Temecula. The program will be administered by my office and grant applications will be available July 1, 2022, 5pm, online at TemeculaCA.gov/grants, and due on Monday, September 12, 2022.

Have a great 4th of July weekend.

-Aaron Adams, City Manager

Despite the City’s 2.5% population decrease, the City is hiring five new sworn officers in 2022, plus the addition of one new Community Services Officer, and purchasing two new motorcycles. We now remain higher than our previous standard of one officer per 1,000 residents. Learn more about Temecula's public safety.
