Greetings -
As we continue through a hot and dry summer, periodic brush fires remind us of the vulnerability Southern California has to wildland fires. Here in the City of Temecula, we take this very seriously and it is an important component of Mayor Rahn's theme this year, Temecula SAFE.
The City provides the highest level of fire protection staffed with 4-fire fighters per engine. Temecula has immediate access to the latest fire resources from CAL FIRE including a brand new CAL FIRE Hawk Twin Engine Helicopter, which was on full display a few weeks ago helping knock out the five-acre brush fire located in Temecula Creek.
We also acknowledge that the best expertise and equipment, demonstrated every day by our first responders and firefighters, still needs the assistance of residents to plan ahead by "hardening" their house and yard. While this is particularly critical in Wildland Urban Interface communities (such as those bordering Temecula Creek), fire embers can be carried by wind for miles so we all must take precautions at home. Simple steps such as covering vents with 1/8 or 1/16 inch mesh, cleaning out rain gutters, and removing dry vegetation from your landscape can save your home. You may want to consider fire prevention retrofits if you are already renovating your home. Look for tips and helpful links online at CALFIRE here. More information can be found in the Temecula SAFE Emergency Preparedness Newsletter recently mailed to every mailbox in Temecula.
Finally, help us celebrate and thank our firefighters and law enforcement personnel by joining us tomorrow, Tuesday, August 2, 2022, 6pm, at City Hall for National Night Out. Hope to see you there.
