Don't have time to eat before Shabbat services? Join us for dinner instead!

Next Friday, February 1st, we will be hosting our monthly Congregational Shabbat Dinner. For $5 per person, you can spend time with your fellow Temple-goers, eat food, and welcome Shabbat in the Erev Shabbat Family Service following the dinner!

Register by next Thursday, January 31st, at 12:00 PM so we can save you a spot!

Highlights
Mamash Kabbalat Shabbat Service
Friday, January 25th at 6:30 PM
This month, we will be holding our first Mamash Kabbalat Shabbat Service. It is a 30-40 minute service. Sing through the psalms that lead up to Shabbat as we join together in a short musical worship experience.
A Cantor's Concert
Congregation Shir Hadash in Los Gatos
Saturday, January 26th
Shir Hadash invites everyone to a special havdalah program with Cantor Felder-Levy and six of her esteemed colleagues, including our very own Cantor Amanda Edmondson, to honor and celebrate the Jewish and secular works of Leonard Bernstein on the centennial of his birth. Congregational Shabbat Dinner
Friday, February 1st at 6:00 PM
Join us for our Congregational Shabbat Dinner! For only $5 per person you can get an awesome meal and some fabulous company. This is immediately followed by our Erev Shabbat Family Service. Thursday, January 31st at 12:00 PM is the deadline for reserving your spot. Register by clicking  here .
Neighborhood Havdalah
Saturday, February 2nd at 6:00 PM
Registration Open!
Join your neighbors to mark the end of Shabbat and usher in the new week. Hosts provide the home, guests will provide an appetizer or dessert, and Temple Emanu-El will provide the wine and ritual. This is a wonderful way to connect with fellow congregants who live in your neighborhood! Please note that the exact location will be provided after we receive your RSVP. Live Streaming
We are officially live streaming!
A few weeks ago, we set up our sanctuary to have live streaming. Now you can join us for a Shabbat service from the comfort of your own home if you are unable to join us in person!
While you can't get food at oneg through the live stream (it's too bad, they really need to invent that), you can keep up with Temple happenings and be part of our beautiful Shabbat services. It is now easily accessible through our website at
Challah Orders
You may now place orders for challahs and pick them up here at Temple. For only $5.50 per 1 lb challah, you have your pick between plain, poppy, sesame, raisin, and wheat.
You must place your order on or before Wednesdays by 5 PM in order to receive the challah that same week. Orders received after 5 PM on Wednesday will not be processed until the following week. Believe it or not - it's that time again! Calling all Mah Jongg players! Time to reorder cards for the year 2019.
Remember that this is a Sisterhood fundraiser and the more individual cards ordered, the more money is rebated to us. Please make out all checks to TEMPLE EMANU-EL SISTERHOOD.

Temple Emanu-El Preschool Open House
Tuesday, February 5th at 5:00 PM
Join us for a fun night! Families interested in our program can come check us out. The program is for children ages 2 to 6. We will have activities for the kids in each classroom, and the entire staff will be present to answer any questions. Congregational Retreat

Baby Shabbat

Temple Emanu-El presents a Shabbat experience geared towards families with children ages 1-30 months. Little ones will enjoy a service full of Shabbat songs, Torah talk, and parachute play! Kiddush, motzi, and a bagel oneg. Everyone is welcome!

2019 Santa Clara County Homeless Point-in-Time Count

International Holocaust Remembrance Day
San Jose City Hall
Tuesday, January 29th at 1:30 PM and 7:00 PM
Join us on Tuesday, January 29th at San Jose City Hall when the San Jose City Council and Council Member Sergio Jimenez will join Mayor Sam Liccardo in proclaiming a week of remembrance in San Jose.  In addition to the ceremony, there will be a gathering from 7:00 - 7:30 PM in front of City Hall for the Lighting of the Rotunda to commemorate the International Holocaust Remembrance. The short event will include the reciting of names, kaddish and some poetry. For more information, contact diane@jvalley.org .
Playback Theater: Immigrants

You're invited to an improv theater performance with the SF Playback Theater troupe in the APJCC Auditorium. The audience will be invited to share its stories (specifically, immigrant experiences) and the performers will create theater using music, movement, and spoken improvisation. Tickets $12-$15.
