Bring your sisters, mothers, daughters, friends and share the delicious food, camaraderie, and uplifting ritual! On April 7, our family service will led by our 4th grade class and will feature the participation of our 6th grade class.  We're proud of our students and their participation and leadership in our service.  This service will also feature our new Junior Choir, the MazelTones!  Join us for a Shabbatluck Dinner before.
Baby Shabbat

Temple Emanu-El presents a Shabbat experience geared towards families with children ages 1-30 months.  Little ones will enjoy a service full of Shabbat songs, Torah talk, and parachute play!  Kiddush, motzi, and a bagel oneg sponsored by Temple Emanu-El Sisterhood follows this fun-filled program.  What a great opportunity for parents of young children to meet and form groups- perhaps even life long friendships- with their peers.  Everyone is welcome!

Food for your body.  Food for your soul.  Need a better way to spend your lunch hour?  Join Rabbi Magat for an informal study and discussion session of a selected Torah portion.  Together we will navigate through traditional interpretations and modern applications of our historic teachings.  Bring your lunch and be ready to get a new perspective on Torah. Open to members and non-members and no previous Torah study is required.   Please make sure your lunch is Kosher for Passover on April 12.

No need to worry at Tot Shabbat!
Led by Rabbi Magat and Cantor Amanda Edmondson, families with young children will enjoy upbeat songs, a short story, and a talk with the Rabbi on the bimah during these brief services. The perfect way to introduce your little ones to the tradition of Friday nights. Following services, enjoy a delicious dinner provided by Sisterhood, of course at no charge!
Erev Havurah Shabbat

Please join our Temple family for Havurah Shabbat.  This is a great time for our Temple members and their guests to learn more about the Havurah program at Temple Emanu-El.  A Havurah is a social group of Temple members who have similar interests. They celebrate holidays together, attend events together, have ladies nights out, take trips together, and much much more. New Havurot are always forming!

Join us outdoors for a spring-themed, clergy led minyan service, followed by a potluck lunch and optional walk around Hellyer Park.  Please bring a vegetarian dish to share.  Hellyer County Park is located at 985 Hellyer Ave., San Jose, CA 95111.  Park at the Visitor's Center parking lot.  Parking $6, dogs on leash allowed.  This event is sponsored by the Temple Emanu-El Ritual Committee.
Mitzvah Day

This year, Mitzvah Day falls on Earth Day weekend. Bring your donations: Bicycles to be upcycled by Good Karma, Household goods ready to be re-loved, Granola bars, applesauce and instant oatmeal for JFS' Vocational ESL Program, Eyeglasses to be refurbished by the Lions Club, Coins for EESY's coin drive to benefit InnVision, Books for Silicon Valley Reading Partners.
More ways to support our community on Mitzvah Day: Make a blanket with Knitzvah, Help us garden in the courtyard, Cook a meal for homeless women-or help us serve it the next day at Women's Gathering Place, Visit Chai House for songs and board games with residents, Learn about local nonprofits like PACT and get involved!!

Rosh Chodesh

Ladies, please join us on Saturday, April 29th, for a relaxed brunch and spiritually uplifting Shabbat experience, as Cantor Edmondson helps us welcome the new month of Iyar. This  Rosh   Chodesh  experience, co-sponsored by the Temple Ritual Committee and Sisterhood, is open to all adult women in the congregation and will take place from  9AM  until about  noon . Each  Rosh   Chodesh  experience will focus on different ideas and have different activities, and in this one we'll embrace the month that is traditionally a month of healing. We'll get to know each other with a guided meditation, study, and exploration of faith on this lovely Shabbat morning. Please come and see what this relaxing and rewarding experience is all about!  And also bring a copy of your challah recipe--whether it's the one your grandmother made and handed down to you, one you created, or one you just found on the internet! Holocaust Exhibit at Congregation Beth David
April 17 through May 3, 2017
The purpose of the project is to educate the community not only about the Holocaust but also about the importance of tolerance and genocide prevention. Temple Emanu-El member Norma Slavit will discuss her two children's picture books, "September Thanksgiving" and "Peaches, Frog, and the Man in the Moon."  The themes in the books include cooperation, patience, and the importance of doing mitzvot.  Held at Congregation Kol Emeth, 4175 Manuela Ave., Palo Alto, CA 94306.
Community Yom HaShoah Event
Sunday, April 23 at 6:30 PM
Join Rabbi Magat and Cantor Edmondson for a Community Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Memorial) Service on Sunday April 23rd. The program will begin at 6:30 pm with presentations by Eric Kay who, a child, was rescued by the Kindertransport. There will be a slide show of art work and poetry by students from Fisher Middle School, the Harker School, St. Andrews, St. Mary's, Yavneh and the Congregational Religious Schools. Finally there will a presentation by HIAS and a viewing of segments of their film "Refugee Children".  A Yom HaShoah memorial service will follow with the lighting of candles by survivors and Second and Third Generation families and the participation of the community's rabbis.  This program will be especially meaningful to adults and children in middle school and high school. The entire community is welcome so please invite your friends and neighbors.  Held at 20 Cherry Blossom Lane, Los Gatos.
County of Santa Clara Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony

Tom and Susan Klein, local Holocaust survivors, will share their stories.  Yavneh Day School choir and Westmont High School student Anat Baird will perform vocal selections.  Archbishop Mitty High School students will speak about what they have learned from refugee stories.  Held at the County Government Building, 70 W. Hedding St., San Jose.
