ON THE TEMPLE CALENDAR

For This Week of April 2nd, 2021
A NOTE FROM RABBI SIROTY

Our congregational seder last Sunday night was a great success. I want to thank Nadine and Cleveland, Kim and Michael Bindursky, Susan Hawthorn, Melody Siroty, Marilyn Wellan, Pam Rubin and Fritzie Fine for their much needed help.

This was truly a shehecheyanu moment. We were finally together after a year apart and yet, the most beautiful thing was, it felt as if we didn't miss a beat.

I look forward to resuming our monthly dinners together as we go forward in good health.

L'Shalom,

Rabbi Raina

This Weeks Torah Portion

Thus the Eternal delivered Israel that day from the Egyptians.
- Exodus 14:30–15:2:36

Summary:

As the observance of Passover draws to an end, the Torah portion includes the dramatic recounting of the splitting of the sea in this poem known as “The Song at the Sea.” Written with great emotion, this poem attempts to convey the power of “God’s might hand.” So powerful is the imagery that verses of this poem have become part of the Jewish liturgy. The poem comes to a climatic finish with Miriam, the prophetess, picking up her timbrel and leading the women in dance.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE ANYTHING ADDED
TO OUR ANNOUNCEMENTS,
PLEASE LET THE RABBI KNOW BY WEDNESDAY EACH WEEK.

HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 is to guarantee patient privacy, which is good for the patient because it protects their confidentiality, but not very helpful when the Temple is trying to find patients. Please do not assume that we know you are in the hospital or that the Chaplains Office has contacted the Temple or the Rabbi, even if a chaplain has visited you. PLEASE, I want to be able to visit you. I want to be able to offer you the solace and perspective of our tradition. The Temple wants to let you know that we care, but that can only happen when we know where you are.

Thank you,

Rabbi Raina Siroty
