Rabbi's Message
by Rabbi David Komerofsky
Grant me the ability to be alone; may it be my custom to go outdoors each day among the trees and grass - among all growing things and there may I be alone, and enter into prayer, to talk with the One to whom I belong. May I express there everything in my heart, and may all the foliage of the field - all grasses, trees, and plants - awake at my coming, to send the powers of their life into the words of my prayer so that my prayer and speech are made whole through the life and spirit of all growing things, which are made as one by their transcendent Source. May I then pour out the words of my heart before your Presence like water, O God, and lift up my hands to You in worship, on my behalf, and that of my children!
The text above is a famous prayer by Rebbe Nachman of Breslov (1772-1811), a great-grandchild of the Baal Shem Tov, founder of Hasidic Judaism. Rebbe Nachman lived through the founding of the United States of America, though he never visited these shores. It’s doubtful he would have known about what was happening in Philadelphia when he was four years old, namely the events that we Americans celebrate in July. Nachman was Eastern European, and his travels took him through the Land of Israel where he was deeply inspired by the roots of our people and the Hasidic communities that were well-established by his predecessor.
I share Rebbe Nachman’s nature prayer this month because this is the time to go outdoors in Northeast Ohio. We will celebrate a Shabbat service outside in July and enjoy a festive outdoor Oneg Shabbat next month. These are the days to celebrate the wonders of the natural world together and alone, savoring the sensory delights all around us.
Like Rebbe Nachman, we live in the world of creation and are part of a grander picture. This month we will consciously step outside of what is comfortable and predictable to savor the wonders of the universe, putting ourselves in perspective of all that God has made.

Sisterhood News
Congratulations to Diana Collum who was awarded the 2023 Deborah Award by WRJ.
Diana is in charge of our Caring Sisters Committee which was started in 2016. She delivers cakes from Sisterhood to Temple families in mourning. Since this program was initiated in 2016, she has helped deliver over 75 cakes. Sisterhood hopes to bring some comfort and caring to those families in need and grief. Diana does this mitzvah with great concern and empathy for her fellow congregants. Diana also organizes and heads the thrice yearly Urban Ark dinners for those individuals at risk in the greater community. She has served of the Temple Board of Trustees, cooked for the Passover Prison Seder, worked on the Temple Caring Committee and is always ready and willing to help out and fill in whenever needed. Additionally, two of her many community activities include making candy for the Kris Kindle Mart which sells the candy to support the Canton Art Institute and volunteering at the Palace Theater. Sisterhood recently honored Diana at a luncheon at The Hart Mansion.
Sisterhood Shabbat Service
Please join Sisterhood on Friday, July 14 for a special Shabbat Service lead by Sisterhood under the direction of Anita Porter. If you would like to participate in this Shabbat service please contact Anita.
