Temple Newsletter
Dear Devotees,

Namaste!

Sri Paripurnanda Giri Swamy will give a talk in Community Hall at 7:30 pm this evening.  He is leader of the famous Vyasa Ashram which is near Tirupati and Sri Kalahasti.  All are welcome, and the talk is free.  More on Vyasa Ashram below.

Starting this Saturday, Sri Venkateswara Temple will start a special service the fourth Saturday of every month. It is Sahasra Deepa Alankaram with Unjala (swing) seva for Lord Venkatesara. This is a beautiful service, where hundreds of deepas are lit.  All are welcome to light deepams for this seva.  A group, Austin-Raganjali team, is coming to sing bhajans on this evening also.  7:00 pm - 8:30 pm.

On Sunday, Manyu Sukta Rudram Havan will be performed in the Homa Kunda at 10:00 am.  Many Suktam comes from the Rig Veda.  Manyu means "angry".  It can denote any God in anger, such as Hanuman, Rudra, or Narasimha. It is a powerful antidote for any negativity.  In the last decade I participated in many yagnas in India where Manyu was invoked to destroy terrorism.  The Beej mantras chanted are very powerful. Registration link.

Supplies needed by the Temple include:
  • Prasad supplies - Nuts & Raisins (leave at Baba temple)
  • Ghee to make prasad
  • Milk, to be offered during abhishekam, or for Prasad, or for the shilpis (religious artists) who use about 14 gallons a week!
  • 8" Dixie paper plates & plastic spoons (Costco/Sams) for free prasad on Thursdays
  • Canola oil, for cooking free prasad.
  • Prasad for Thursday - to offer to Sri Sai, at 6:30pm & 8pm - bring to main hall.
All prasad is served to Devotees free of charge.
With loving regards,
Craig Sastry

Sri Paripoornanda Giri Swamy Speaks Tonight in Cultural Hall, 7:30 pm

About Swamiji and the Ashram:

Vyasa Ashram is located at Yeerpedu which is located near Tirupati and Sri Kalahasthi. It was established by Malayalaswami and has become an important seat for spiritual knowledge, attracting thousands of spiritual practioners, aspirants, and devotees. Paripurnanda Swami became the Uttaradhikari (future pithadhipathi) of Sri Vyasa ashram in 1993.

Swamiji has travelled extensively around Andhra Pradesh, England, and the USA.

Sri Sri Sri Malyalaswami started separate Sanskrit schools, residential schools, orphanages, and Brahmavidya Pathasalas (Schools of Knowledge of the Self) for boys and girls.  These institutions are carried on today, along with free boarding and lodging facilities for the children and the aged, a free clinic, an old age home, and a printing press to publish spiritual books and magazines on a large scale. All this is done without consideration of race, religion, sex, caste, etc.

It is the great, selfless souls like Sri Paripurnanda Giri Swamy who redeem the world. Take prasad dinner and then come hear him speak tonight starting at 7:30 pm in the Community Hall.

Tribute to Anu Dasika and Husband Srinivasa
For the last two years, Anu Dasika has been a Classical Indian music guru for many children at the Temple. We are a little sad to see her move to Houston, where her husband Srinivasa is working.  Life is full of such bittersweet moments. Although she won't be teaching at the Temple, what she has taught will stay in the minds of her pupils for a long time.  Thank you, Anu, for your great service to the temple and community.

Her husband Srinivasa has been buying boxes of bananas for the Sandwich Seva meals for the homeless every Sunday.  His warm hearted actions will also be missed.  Anyone wanting to start purchasing the bananas please contact us at SASTRY.  May Baba shower his blessings on this divine couple and all of us.
Cosmic Story - The Clever Businessman

There was a clever businessman who went to a lecture given by a saint. The saint said that one should chant the name of God constantly, so that when the time of death comes, one's mind will be in the habit of thinking of God.  The saint said that a person's last thoughts determine where he goes after death. If one is repeating the name of God at the time of death, one will go to God.

This made a lot of sense to the businessman. But being a practical man, the businessman did not see any way he could always be thinking of God.  Between the business and the family he was planning, he did not think he could devote hardly anytime at all thinking of God!  So he struck on a plan.  He knew that someday he would be on his deathbed.  At that time, he expected that his children would surround him.  So he decided to name his children after God!  While on his deathbed, he would be looking at his children, all named after God.  He would be looking at them and thinking the name of God when he died.  It was a brilliant plan - he would get the benefit of heaven without all the work.

As it turned out, he had three children, and he did name them after God.  He named the two boys Rama and Krishna, and the daughter Mahalakshmi.

Many years passed, and the man prospered in his business.  His children all worked in the shop with him.  But as time passed, he grew old. Eventually, the fateful day dawned when he would leave his earthly body.  As he had planned, his three children gathered around his bedside.  As expected he gazed at each one of them.  "Rama!  Mahalakshmi!  Krishna!" he thought as he looked at each one of them.   The plan was working.  He was repeating the names of God as he approached his time.  His time was about to expire.  Finally, his last moment came.  Unfortunately, he was always in the habit of thinking primarily of his business. Then he thought: "If my three children are here, who is in the shop?" breathing his last.  His plan, although clever, had failed.

Once I knew of a businessman. He developed a chain of discount stores. He bought items very cheap and sold them cheap, making his stores popular. When he retired, he sold his business for more than $100,000,000. He then moved to the beautiful tropical island of Kauai. But was he happy there? No! Why not?  Being a remote island, everything cost "too much".  Throughout his life, he had developed a habit of buying everything cheap. Even with $100,000,000 in the bank, he could not easily discard this life long habit.

Habits are hard to break.  Therefore, develop the habit of repeating God's name early in life. Do not try to be clever. Just follow the plain meaning words of the Guru and you will be redeemed.
