The 2017 AAMA National Conference is in Cincinnati, Ohio. The 2018 AAMA National Conference is in Utah. The 2019 AAMA National Conference is in NORTH CAROLINA!!  Check out AAMA website for information. As I write this, I have mixed emotions as my term as your President is coming to an end. I have truly enjoyed this past year and it has been an honor to serve. This has been a long journey and really something I never thought I would be doing.  I have been in this organization for 35 years and it proves that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks.  Great mentors have pushed and prodded me and one of our greatest mentors Joan Michaels, CMA-A, (AAMA) will not be with us at 2017 NCSMA annual convention to give us words of encouragement, but I am sure she will be looking down on NCSMA during the convention.  I want everyone to continue to make her proud of NCSMA.

Vice President
It looks like Spring is right around the corner! I am looking forward to seeing everyone at state convention, but sad that we will be missing one if our good friend, Joan. She will be missed. I reviewed the membership and a lot of people did not renew on time. As of March 1, we have about 2300 members. We are still a big society. Let's continue and make it stronger. I want to thank everyone who gave me the opportunity to serve in this capacity.
Maria Va de Bovenkamp, CMA (AAMA)

Secretary
Hello everyone! Things are going well with the office of Secretary. Thank you for allowing me to serve in this role for two years. I look forward to serving the NCSMA in other capacities. I will have NCSMA letterhead and envelopes with me at the State Convention for anyone needing either for official business. Hope to see you all soon!
Regards,
Amber Greer, BS, CMA (AAMA)

Speaker of the House
As my two year's comes to an end I have mixed feelings. This is one job on the NCSMA board that I never thought I could do, when I sat in my first House many years ago I thought this was the toughest job on the board. I was so wrong, now don't get me wrong this is a tough job but the support from the members and the best mentor I could have in Shirley have made this an awesome experience. I have completed my second delegate packet and look forward to a very smooth running house this year. Please consider serving on a committee and moving forward with
the NCSMA as we are always willing to mentor and help.
Shannon Mitchell, CMA (AAMA)

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Awards Committee
The Awards committee met at winter seminar and did our judging for the Awards.  We had a long discussion about chapters still being confused about some of the rules that apply to sending in Awards.  We ask the Board to do some wording changes for the Standing Rules and ask that they be put on the website. After working with Rebecca Walker, CMA(AAMA)CPC we have made
the necessary changes.  There should not be any confusion now I hope.  We will
be presenting the Awards at the Awards Luncheon at convention.  Thanks to all
my committee members for serving this year.
Betty Jones, Active Member, (AAMA)

Received Wilmington and will start working on these. The following chapters need to submit their bylaws for review: Alamance, Ashe, Cabarrus, Central Carolina, Craven, Iredell, Lee-Moore, and Wayne.  Remember this year if your bylaws are not in order you will not be able to have representation in the House of Delegates. The bylaws committee is also looking at chapters who have not had representation in the HOD for 2 or more years that those chapters may become inactive and the chapters dissolved.  Please
get your bylaws to me soon.

Past Presidents Committee
I met with the past presidents who attended the winter seminar in Kinston.  We discussed convention and made some plans for it.  We were so shocked to hear of the death of one of our founding members and past presidents, Joan Michaels.  We had just seen her at the AAMA national conference in Reston, VA. Joan was a mentor to all of us and such a special lady.  We will be doing a tribute to her at state convention at the Banquet.  Thank you Paula for allowing
me to serve. So proud that you finally will be one of us. Thanks to all the past
presidents for their continued leadership and mentoring to the NCSMA.

LOCAL CHAPTER REPORTS

Albermarle Area Chapter
Greetings from our president, Cindy Hall, CMA(AAMA), CPC and our Chapter. We hope and pray that everyone is having a great and exciting year so far. We have been busy as usual having our monthly meetings and attending several seminars. We have enjoyed and learned many topics that have helped further our career and CMAs. They both have been very informative and continue to give us our well-deserved CEUs.
Some of our monthly meetings and CEUs were about:
·         Childhood Vaccinations
·         Albemarle Reg. Health Services
·         Community Care Plan of Eastern Carolina and Pharmacy Program Finding the leader in you
·         How specimens are handled when they are collected at the hospital
Our monthly speakers come from our community and even from our Chapter. We have made some contributions to the community. They are:
·         College of The Albemarle award recipient
·         Day Break
·         NCSMA 2017 Convention
We have also been given a generous contribution from the American Academy Professional Coders. We really appreciate and are so thankful to them. The College of The Albemarle 2017 Medical Assistants will have the Pinning Ceremony on May 8, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. We are so happy for them. As a tradition, our Chapter will be giving the graduates their first Medical Assistant pin. The annual Stella Gallop Award is given during this ceremony. The recipient this year is Rebecca Markwood. This year Medical Assistant's graduation will take place on May 10, 2017. Everyone is invited to attend each program. Congratulations to the 2017 College of The Albemarle Medical Assistant graduates.
Our Chapter meets monthly on the first Thursday of each month. We meet at the campus of College of The Albemarle inside of the Owens Center, room 117 at 7:00 pm. Our meetings are very educational, exciting, and we receive valuable CEUs.
To all Medical Assistants that are in our area, we extend a hearty invitation to join our Chapter. We world love for you to all to attend our monthly meeting and become a part of the Albemarle Area Chapter of the North Carolina Albemarle Area.
Betty Lilly, CMA (AAMA)
Catawba County Chapter
We have had a great year and I hope each and everyone had a wonderful holiday. Robin Bailey, CMA (AAMA) did a wonderful job getting our CEU speakers this past year. Our installation ceremony for the upcoming year was held at the Olive Garden in December, at that time we collect items for the "Robin's Nest" a child advocacy program in Caldwell County. We continue having wonderful CEU programs. Our chapter along with the Alamance County Chapter will be hosting the Hospitality Room at the NCSMA Convention on Thursday night. Catawba County Chapter has started working on hosting the Winter Seminar 2019.
