A Note From Karen

Dear Makers,

Isn't it wonderful that there are so many ways to knit? There is no "wrong" way! Each knitter has a unique way of pulling yarn through hoops. However, there are different knitting methods! A particular method may be useful in a project, but that doesn’t mean it’s always the best way for every project! Plus, your hands might need a change! I encourage knitters to learn multiple methods!

Earlier this month, Andrea Wong taught Portuguese-Style Knitting. This class was well attended and students loved her teaching style. If you missed this class, please let us know. We will check Andrea’s availability for repeating the session. In the near future, Andrea will be teaching Portuguese Knitting in Colorwork – a technique that you don’t want to miss. In addition, we scheduled a Continental Knitting class. It will be held on March 7 from 1-3pm and I will be the instructor.

In the meantime, read further to find more opportunities. Enjoy your knitting!

SWEATER CAMP

Wednesdays, March 11-May 13
2-4pm and 6-8pm
Fee: $75.00

Join Linda and Karen as they kick off the first Sweater Camp at Knitting Temptations.
Sweater Camp is an opportunity for knitters to work together on the same project while receiving guidance from staff and support from other participants. Our first sweater project is Andrea Mowry’s popular pattern, The Weekender . The first session is Wednesday, March 11 and continues weekly through Wednesday, May 13. Groups will meet from 2-4pm and 6-8pm.
To determine appropriate pattern size, staff members will take the necessary measurements. They will help participants choose from a large selection of yarn and provide directions for knitting gauge swatches.
At the weekly gatherings, knitters will learn “tips and tricks” to track their progress, to prevent and fix mistakes and optional techniques for achieving “full fashion” garments.
KALEIDOSCOPE OF COLOR

March 28
10am-1pm
Class fee: $75

Join Mandy Root-Thompson on a journey through a Kaleidoscope of Color!

Mandy is presenting a fun and informative 3-hour workshop on color in knitting and crochet projects. Students will gain a better understanding of how to choose excellent color combinations. They will use a color wheel for selecting color schemes, warm and cool colors and neutrals (yes, neutrals are colors, too!).

Color theory may seem complicated and intimidating. However, understanding a few basic concepts will help you select yarns for a variety of color schemes. Don’t plan on sitting for a long lecture! Mandy’s hands-on method of teaching will have you up and moving around the shop finding your perfect colors. Students will receive a color wheel and booklet with class notes for future reference.

Mandy (a novice crocheter) is a medical illustrator and an instructor at the Columbus College of Art and Design.

Students need to bring at least one pattern requiring 3 or more colors that they want to knit or crochet.
GIFT-A-LONG (GAL)

Do you forget, procrastinate or just can’t finish the project that you started for a birthday, new baby or holiday gift? We have a fun solution!

Join us on Tuesdays from 6-8pm to Gift Along (GAL). Our GAL will feature small projects that make wonderful gifts. Carefully curated free and paid patterns will allow prime use of all yarn weights and be appropriate for all levels of knitting and crochet expertise. Participants will have items ready for gifting throughout the year or by the end of the year, have a treasure trove of gifts ready for the holidays.

The GAL selection for March is Darn It Stripe It from Darn It Anyway.

Stripes! We love them! The cowl is knit in the round with one skein of the self-striping worsted weight yarn from Uneek. Let the yarn do the work. The cowl begins with simple ribbing and ends with an easy rolled edge. Such a fun knit. We think that you will love it too!
