Ever wondered how Hansen's Dairy products are made? During June Dairy Month, we highlighted a different product every week and explained exactly how each one is produced. Read all about it, or watch the videos!

HOW IT'S MADE series:
#MilkMonday ends successful run
#MilkMonday just concluded!

With thanks to the Black Hawk County Farm Bureau, this initiative  asked grocery shoppers at   Hansen's Dairy and  Fareway  Grocery stores to donate money to provide  Hansen's Dairy  milk to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank.

In 3 months, Hansen's Dairy customers raised a total of $576.82 by either purchasing an extra gallon of milk or rounding up their purchase to the nearest dollar.

We are thrilled that so many people have been generous in opening their hearts and wallets to provide milk for the Food Bank. We are blessed to live in communities where people see the importance of providing nutritious food to their neighbors.
Customer of the Month
Jaime Leonhart and family
The July Customer of the Month is  Jaime Leonhart
of Denver.

Jaime has been shopping at the Hansen's Dairy Moo Roo location since it opened in Waterloo in 2006.

"We were just living down the street on Frederic Avenue. We were so excited and I remember walking from our house and peeking in the windows," she said. "We made it a weekly experience in the summer to get ice cream, milk, and cheese curds!" One of her favorite products is the Chocolate Turtle ice cream.

Jaime and her family have also been to see just where the products are made.

"We have visited the farm three times, and love the family and care of the cows," she says.

Thanks, Jaime! Customers of the Month receive a $5 gift certificate to use at our stores and two free hands-on tour passes to the farm (a $24 value). You could be chosen by filling out an entry form at our stores or through your comments on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
CowoftheMonth Cow of the Month
Our July Cow of the Month is small in size but giant in production.

Jendayi is 3 years old and has given birth to two calves: one bull and one heifer we named Jaybird.

She is short-statured but a powerhouse in the milking parlor, churning out 120 pounds of milk a day - that's 14 gallons!

Jendayi has a somewhat famous father. Her sire, Starbuck, is one of the greatest show bulls in Canadian history. He was born in 1979. With the use of artificial insemination, good genes can live on long after the live animal is gone!

Cooking with Hansen's
Here's a simple sandwich that's sure to explode on your taste buds! It can be a meal in itself, or an appetizer for your summer-time get-togethers. My husband likes the extra kick of the pepper cheese and thinks this combination knocks it out of the park. However, you can use any softer cheese, like muenster or even shredded cheese that melts well. Hansen's Dairy stores carry a wide variety to suit your needs. Make sure to print out this month's coupon to save on any Wisconsin cheese!
