#1 Hip Hop, R&B
[Hip Hop] Various authors. Fresh! July 4, 1987. Ashley Communications. Los Angeles: 1987. Color illustrated wraps. 62 pp. Color and black and white photos throughout. Single issue of this magazine that seemed to be in transition at this point. The magazine debuted in 1985, billing itself as a magazine covering rock and video. While still billing itself as for rock and video, almost all the content in this issue is devoted to hip hop artists and R and B. The editorial style is devoted to a younger audience, being a bit light on in depth content. This issue with pieces on Bobby Brown, Beastie Boys, Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam, Janet Jackson, and others. Color pinups of Run DMC and Beastie Boys present. VERY GOOD condition. Minor fading, wrinkling and edgewear. A hint of toning along the edges. Minor toning to the paper in the interior. $150.00

#2 Lesbian S/M Ephemera
Pervert Scouts (Casual Group for S/M Lesbians) Shoeshine and Cookie Sale Benefit Handbill. Pervert Scouts, presumed publisher. (San Francisco): no date. Single sheet, thick paper stock, lime green. Approximately 5 by 5 inches. Printed on a single side only. What better way for an S and M lesbian group to raise funds than sell cookies while shining shoes? The event was held at Castro and 18th in San Francisco, on a Saturday (May 21). Our research, relegated to the internet did not turn up anything relating to this group. VERY GOOD condition. Minor edgewear and a hint of toning. $35.00

#3 60's Radicalism, John Sinclair.
Sinclair, John. Year of the Woodstock Nation. Day of the Birth of Marion Sunny Sinclair 1967. No publisher, place or date, presumed Michigan, 1970. 6 leaves, printed on single sides only, 8 ½ by 11 inches. Although not directly attributed, this appears to be a printing of an address, or letter to, “Dear People,” written by John Sinclair while incarcerated in Marquette Prison. Written on the birthday of his child, Marion Sunny Sinclair, on 5/4/1970, Sinclair provides a stream of thought style piece discussing Pun Plamondon; various aspects of organized action against the intractable powers that be in the government, including mention of the White Panther Party; Chick Corea; etc., etc. Admittedly it is a dense six pages, ranging from topic to topic without real cohesion, or perhaps cohesive to someone in that moment of 1970, when Sinclair was still incarcerated on marijuana possession. We could not find definitive reference to this piece, although it is definitely a photomechanically reproduced item, though contemporary to 1970. GOOD condition. Heavy browning and offsetting along the edges. A few chips and tears along the edges. Some wrinkling at the top left corner. $500.00

#4 Punk Rock, Atomic Bomb
New Model Army. “Here Comes the War” Recipe to Build an Atomic Bomb Promotional Leaflet. New Model Army/Epic Records, Publisher. No place or date, presumed 1993. Single sheet, folded into four pages. Roughly 5 ½ by 8 inches. A booklet issued by the British punk/rock band New Model Army in anticipation of their single “Here Comes the War,” released in 1993. The booklet contains a “recipe” on building an atomic bomb, drawing on information from public records and Stephin Merritt’s expertise. With illustrations. The website for New Model Army indicates this may have been included with the release of the single: if so, we presume it would have been in the 12” single, based on size. New Model Army is a British band formed in 1980. Sometimes associated with punk, the band has made music in a variety of genres and influences. NEAR FINE condition. Perhaps a hint of toning. $75.00

One photo depicts the McCollough Knights Drum Corp from Washington DC, another a concert band from Charlotte, NC, one depicts a small stage area, another depicts Walter McCollough and the last depicts food being handed out. The United House of Prayer for All People was founded by Bishop Charles Manuel “Sweet Daddy” Grace in 1919. It was founded on the principle of it being a place of worship for all people, regardless of denomination or creed. Grace travelled in segregated communities in the South during the 1930s and 40s, often preaching to integrated crowds. Walter McCollough took over after Grace’s death in 1960. GOOD condition.
