Ten Years in the Life of an Old Growth Forest

It's been a decade since Meltzer Woods opened to the public to great fanfare. It has been one of our most beloved preserves ever since.

But ten years is just the blink of an eye in a forest this ancient. This iconic place, which shows what Indiana looked like presettlement, has a history centuries old.

The old growth forest is the legacy of the Meltzer Family, who stewarded the land for generations.

In a few weeks, we'll celebrate that legacy.

Where: Meltzer Woods, 1522 S. 600 East, Shelbyville

When: 10am-noon Saturday, Oct. 24

Cost: Free

RSVP: Sign up here.

We'll offer a short program about the property and the family behind its preservation. Then our President/CEO, Cliff Chapman, will lead a guided nature walk. You are also free to explore the trails on your own.
