Tennis Court Reconstruction at T.B. McPherson Park
The City of Gainesville’s Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs Department and the Wild Spaces & Public Places program are pleased to announce that work is about to begin to rebuild the tennis courts at T.B. McPherson Park, located at 1717 SE 15th Street. This is our most recent effort towards fulfilling the City Commission’s stated goal of having a world-class park system in Gainesville.
After many years of continuous community use, the T.B. McPherson Park tennis courts have developed significant cracking. Nidy Sports Construction Companyhas been hired to demo and rebuild the courts, and provide new nets, posts, perimeter fencing and windscreens. The courts are expected to be completed by April, 2020. The cost of the project is approximately $172,000.
Gainesville’s Aces in Motion (AIM) program operates from T.B. McPherson Park throughout the school year. AIM is a non-profit, after-school program designed to serve local disadvantaged youth and people with disabilities. The tennis courts are used extensively to “promote character development, academic achievement, and a healthy lifestyle to people of all abilities.” AIM Executive Director Addison Staples is thrilled to have the courts rebuilt and encourages involvement in the program. For questions about AIM, call 352-514-9975 or visit the Facebook page to learn how the program is changing lives in our community.
The Wild Spaces & Public Places sales tax will continue to create, improve and maintain parks and recreational facilities and acquire and improve environmentally-sensitive lands. To sign up for updates, please visit www.WildSpacesPublicPlacesGNV.org.
