Re: Tentative Agreement

The Provincial Negotiating Team met on January 14, 2021 to review and discuss a proposed agreement for a two year extension of the Provincial Collective Agreement. The Team made a recommendation that Provincial Executive accept the two year contract extension as a tentative agreement to be put to the membership for a ratification vote.

Provincial Executive met on January 14 and 15 and passed a motion to hold a ratification vote on the proposed tentative agreement for a two year extension of the Provincial Collective Agreement. Following consultations with Branch Presidents at a special Joint Council meeting on January 22, Joint Council passed a motion to recommend the tentative contract extension agreement for acceptance by members. The ratification vote will take place electronically, from February 16-19, 2021.

Copies of the tentative agreement are being mailed to all schools, and it can also be accessed here.

A recorded presentation explaining the provisions of the tentative agreement and Association processes and considerations in reaching a decision to recommend it to members is being finalized and will be available for NLTA members soon.

Due to ongoing Public Health restrictions, virtual Q&A sessions have been scheduled at which the President, Provincial Executive members and Association staff will be available to discuss and respond to questions members may have regarding the tentative agreement. Access information for the virtual sessions will be communicated separately, but the dates/times (island time, half hour earlier in most of Labrador) are:
  • Thursday, February 4 from 4:00PM to 6:00PM
  • Tuesday, February 9 from 7:00PM to 9:00PM
  • Thursday, February 11 from 4:00PM to 6:00PM
  • Monday, February 15 from 6:00 PM to 8:00PM

The tentative agreement would extend the current Provincial Collective Agreement for a period of two years, from September 1, 2020 to August 31, 2022, with no other changes except:
  • a salary increase (retroactive to September 2020); and,
  • adjustments to employer cost sharing of post-employment group insurance premiums for newly hired employees.

All members are encouraged to take some time to review the tentative agreement, watch the presentation that will be available soon, and attend a virtual Q&A session for further discussion of any questions you have.
