CAPTAIN YOGI'S USELESS
BUT IMPORTANT INFORMATION

I reached out to Yogi for some useless information and did not get a response other than this post on Facebook.

Apparently they are enjoying the views at Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico Golf & Beach Resort. So next month we can expect a full wrap up of that trip in his November Useless but important information. I thought about traveling to get the Useless but Important Information with a face to face interview with Yogi, but alas Diane, our treasurer, would not allocate the use of funds for my investigative reporting trip. Maybe next time.

Thank you, from your Editor - Crasher

Announcing On Site Registration in Key West for Meeting of the Minds 2018
First you MUST be a Parrot Head Club member to attend MOTM. You know we verify EVERY club member who attends every year. This is an IRS requirement.
When we are in Key West our registration team DOES NOT have the ability to verify your club membership. Come to the registration area and fill out the special ”MOTM On-Site Registration / Virtual Club Membership form”. Please DO NOT join the Virtual Club before showing up to register on-site, as, again we will not be able to confirm your membership. Fill out the form at the Casa Marina, the registration cost is $90.00, the Virtual Club membership cost is $30.00, late fee is $30.00.
You will not get a free event t-shirt or gift bag when you on-site register. Remember we had to order that stuff in mid-September and you missed the deadline. Late Registration? $30.00 fee. Why? Because we want you to register before the deadline so we can prepare everything for you in advance. Registration is open for well over 9 months...We don’t want you to register late…this is only to help people who have a situation that did not allow a regular registration during the year. So, the cost to attend MOTM via late registration is $150.00 on-site. You will walk away with a personalized credential and wristband that allows you to attend all events at the Casa Marina and even ride the shuttle all over the island during the event. Remember there is no free event shirt or gift bag with on-site registration but you are then ready to join your PHriends and see the show!!
If you want to register on site be sure to show up during regular registration hours as there are NO exceptions to these hours. We have an awesome registration crew that are all-volunteer and they need to enjoy MOTM too! On-site registration is during the normal registration hours of Thursday 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Friday 9:00 AM to noon, as well as Friday 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, and Saturday from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Remember you will be registering up front at the Casa Marina in the ballroom beside the lobby. No one will be able to enter the Casa Marina without a credential and wristband during MOTM when registration starts on Thursday.
$150.00 cash or credit card will be accepted for registration on-site during the hours listed above. Once again, after you register you will have everything you need to attend the entire event, ride the Parrot Head shuttle around Key West from the Casa Marina, and enjoy a membership in the Virtual Parrot Head Club for the balance of 2018. There are no exceptions to this process as this is just to help folks who need to use this method of registration. See you in Key West!
If you have a registration question please email Rick Fyffe directly at   rjfyffe1@ymail.com  ( https://t.e2ma.net/click/wbvkn/co3zjh/so23vd )

If you are driving to Key West enjoy some stops along the way!

Take a Stupid Sh*t Day
Contributed by Diane Clapper

You know how sometimes you’re riding down the road with your spouse/SO/partner-in-crime, and you pass a place of interest or sign advertising one and say to each other, “Have you ever gone there?” Then you realize that neither of you has, and so you say, “We should do that sometime.” …but you never do.

Well, that happened to us one too many times, and so I invented “ Stupid Sh*t Day .” It’s a day that you schedule to just go do some of the stupid sh*t you always say you’re gonna do, but somehow never quite get around to.

So, what was on our Stupid Sh*t agenda? I’m glad you asked!

We started our day with lunch at Hardee’s – yes, Hardee’s! I haven’t had a Frisco burger in FOREVER, and am always craving one! They’re SOOOO bad for your body, but so good for the soul! I figured one wouldn’t kill me (and it hasn’t, so far).

Then we traveled to Centralia – a near-ghost town in Columbia County, Pennsylvania. I have always been fascinated by the fact that a decades-old underground mine fire all but completely eliminated an entire town (there are still two households left – we saw them). The fire started in 1962 – that fire is older than ME! Centralia is considered Pennsylvania’s Love Canal. The two remaining households have an agreement with the state allowing them to remain in Centralia until they die, at which point their properties would be condemned and Centralia will be officially and completely uninhabited.

While most of Centralia is eerie, there is one cool part – Graffiti Highway. Dubbed as, “Fun with a side of sad and creepy,” Graffiti Highway is an almost one-mile stretch of Route 61 that was blocked off because of the roadway’s damage received from the fire, and is a profusion of color in a mostly abandoned ghost town.

According to Centralia.org, “No one knows for sure exactly when the graffiti began on the road, but it appears to have started in the mid-2000s and accelerated sometime around 2007." By 2010, most of the highway was covered. And it continues. Being the faithful Parrot Head that I am, I had to leave my mark…

Our final stop was Roadside America, off I-78 in Shartlesville. Roadside America is, “an interactive panorama of American History.” It is a miniature world of handcrafted buildings and operating railroads created by Laurence Gieringer – originally in his home. In 1953, he relocated it to its current home. While you can tell it is not brand new anymore, it is still quite a sight to see. Every hour, the overhead lights dim and an American tribute is played, complete with the “National Anthem” and “God Bless America!”

So, what’s on the list for the Clapper’s next  Stupid Sh*t Day ? Well, Rick wants to do the Turkey Hill Experience and create his own ice cream (big surprise); and I want to visit the Johnstown Flood Museum and South Fork Fishing & Hunting Club Clubhouse.

SO, the next time you say to your travel buddy, “Hey, I’ve never been there; have you?” and realize you haven’t; jot it down (that’s what the Notepad on your phone is for) and set up a  Stupid Sh*t Day . It just might be one of the best days you spend together!
