Michael Thomas, founder of former dining landmarks Sterling's and 24 Miramar, has opened Terra located at 4260 Herschel St., the former home of Pastiche.

Thomas calls Terra "a deceptively simple, innovative dining experience." 

The New Menu is the collaborative effort between Thomas and Cristal Wacks, who graduated from Le Cordon Bleu Institute of Culinary Arts in Pittsburg. She did her internship at Le Bonne Vie. When she moved to Jacksonville she worked her way up to lead chef at Pele's Wood Fire Grill. She then became lead chef at Taverna.

Terra's sous chef is Patrick Chestnut who graduated from the Art Institute of Jacksonville, a branch of the Miami International University with a four year degree in Culinary Arts.

Terra's pastry chef is Sharon Stewart who has worked at  Let Them Eat Cake and Jacksonville's Best Dessert restaurants  Biscotti's and BB's.

Terra is a comfortable, neighborhood restaurant with friendly and professional service. Featuring a variety of local, sustainable and world ingredients, the ever-changing menu will include vegetables, lettuces and herbs from the restaurant's own organic garden, designed by Carmen Franz, the former coordinator of UNF's Organic Gardening and now Community Food Project Coordinator for Florida Organic Growers.

Terra offers a unique, moderately priced selection of wine with craft beers.

The restaurant's beverage program includes four rotating craft beers on draft with another 20 in bottles and cans. Wine selection includes 30 to 40 wines, including 20 by the glass.
