“Every gardener knows that under the cloak of winter lies a miracle … a seed waiting to sprout, a bulb opening to the light, a bud straining to unfurl. And the anticipation nurtures our dream.” ~ Barbara Winkler

Monthly Meetings

On January 10th we took care of business, and enjoyed a lesson in "Planning Our Beds - Gardening 101". We met at GROW Greenhouses at Tewksbury State Hospital, and Bob Baden shared a lesson in planting seeds, with tips on fertilizing, watering, soil, light, fans, timing, etc. And our own Karen Favreau shared her knowledge on composting!

Garden Therapy

Trish shared a plate that was created as one of the projects at the Blair House.

Say "Yes" To Houseplants...

or at Least Maybe

Hello Garden Clubbers! Here we are in the middle of winter and there isn’t much we can do for our outdoor gardens except pray for an early spring. This is a great time to turn our attention to indoor gardening.

Highlighting our Board Roles

A look into Board roles and responsibilities ...

The Board for the club consists of a President (and possibly a co-president), a 1st Vice-President, a 2nd Vice-President, a Treasurer, a Recording Secretary, and a Corresponding Secretary. The Board meets monthly, before the club’s monthly meeting. Board Meetings are open to all club members.

So you want to be a Vice-President? It’s a great position because you have a partner! We have two – 1st VP and 2nd VP. These roles are complementary and work in tandem as the program planners for the club. While the 1st VP often takes the lead role in planning, and the 2nd VP actively assists. The full board also supports the program planning as needed, with direction from the VPs. Sometimes the VPs split the role and take on the program for certain months.

Program planning starts very early, sometimes even in the previous year, and is usually completed by August for the upcoming club year so that the monthly programs can be included in the yearbook.

Programming consists of planned events such as the inaugural meeting, the November Program, the Holiday event and the June dinner. The other months are filled with outside speakers and our own club talent. There is a budget for the 9 months of meetings. If you want to stretch your creative wings, then the role of VP is for you!

Think you might be interested in taking on the role of VP for the 2024-2025 year? Let us know! Nominations begin in 2024.
