hired as Kentucky state veterinarian
“The role of Kentucky state veterinarian is a critical one for the health of our agricultural animals across the state and the public at large,” Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture Dr. Ryan Quarles said. “Dr. Velasco’s vast experience sets him up to fulfill this task with great professionalism and skills.... We are excited for him to join our team and look forward to his contributions for the betterment of our agricultural sector.”

Kentucky farm fact

Henderson County High School is the defending KDA Farm to School Junior Chef state champion, winning back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022. Montgomery County High has the most junior chef state championships, three, with victories in 2019 and 2016-17. Four other high schools were state champs in the nine-year-old junior chef competition: Anderson County, 2015; Harlan County, 2018; Mayfield, 2013; and Owen County, 2014.
