Intern with C3 Texas!
January through May, 2013
or
June through August, 2013
We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic, and witty student leaders on our member college campuses to come intern with us.
Interns will have the chance to get an up close and personal look at the ins and outs of a non-profit. Interns work alongside our experienced Executive Director and Director of Programs & Operations, our Board of Directors, Advisory Council, as well as Collegiate Engagement Council -- and also have the chance to participate in actively transforming education for the public good. Working directly with our management team, interns also have their own office space at C3 Texas in Austin.
We tailor each internship to suit the academic needs of the student with the ongoing needs of C3 Texas. We value creating a meaningful service experience for all of our interns. All of our interns are automatically invited to participate as a member of our statewide Collegiate Engagement Council.
Interns work in a variety of areas such as communications, PR and marketing, social media, education research, program outreach, and so much more! We do occasionally offer "virtual internships" for students who cannot re-locate to Austin as many of our projects are online or cloud-based. We prefer junior or senior college students to complete a for-credit internship but are also open to employing non-credit interns.
Internships are unpaid however; we do offer a flexible work schedule, free parking, humorous colleagues, and meaningful work. Interns will receive real-world, hands-on learning experiences.
Each intern is given the title of "Director" along with personalized business cards. Internships are on a first-come, first-serve basis. We will recruit three [3] interns for this coming spring semester.
About our office: We work out of a small home converted into office space in the heart of eclectic south Austin. We're looking for fun, outgoing, motivated students who are leaders on their campus and passionate about effecting social change,
We can't accomplish all that we do without our amazing interns.

College President Spotlight
Dr. Juliet V. Garca - President of University of Texas at Brownsville
Latina's Leading the Way
Dr. Juliet V. Garca is the President at the University of Texas at Brownsville. She has been leading the university for the past ten years, after six years of being the President of Texas Southmost College. In 1986 she became the first Mexican-American woman to become president of a university in American History.
Dr. Garca was born in Brownsville, Texas. She went on to earn a Ph.D. in Communications and Linguistics from The University of Texas at Austin and an M.A. and B.A. in Classical Rhetoric and Public Address and English from the University of Houston.
In 1991, Dr. Garca was part of group of community leaders who successfully fought for the establishment of the University of Texas at Brownsville as a partner of the Texas Southmost College. This partnership between a community college and four year university was the first of its kind, where the barriers of transfer from a community college to a four year university were stripped away. It consolidated the infrastructure of both colleges, and eliminated the redundancies between the two colleges. The partnership offers a full range of occupational-technical, continuing education, and community education programs with certificate and associate degrees traditional to the community college. In addition, it offers baccalaureate degrees, master's degrees and a doctoral program traditional to a university. Students have the opportunity to move seamlessly through the community university to achieve their academic goals.
Dr. Garca has established an innovative culture on campus, with the establishment of a Math and Science Academy for high school level juniors and seniors, an Early College High School in collaboration with a local school district, and a large dual enrollment program created for regional high school students being the most prominent examples.
Dr. Garca has spent a lifetime in public service, having served as chair of the Advisory Committee to Congress on Student Financial Assistance and on the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans, the American Council on Education (ACE), the largest higher education association in the nation, and participated in ACE's South Africa Project. She was a member of the San Antonio Branch of the Federal Reserve Board and Vice Chair of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Most recently, Dr. Garca has served on the boards of National Campus Compact, chaired Texas Campus Compact, and was a member of President-Elect Obama's Transition Team.
Dr. Garca currently serves on the boards of Ford Foundation, the Public Welfare Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Humanities Texas, and Raise Your Hand Texas. She is also currently serving as the co-chair of the Notre Dame University Task Force: On the Participation of Latino Children and Families in Catholic Schools in America.
Dr. Garca was inducted into the Texas Women's Hall of Fame for Lifetime Achievement in Education and received the Hispanic Heritage Award for her lifetime of service. She has also received the Reginald V. Wilson Diversity Award from the Office of Minority Affairs from the American Council on Education. She has been named as one of the Top 10 College Presidents by Time magazine, Hispanic Business magazine recognized her multiple times in their 100 Most Influential Hispanics annual publication, and she is featured in the book, Texas Wise Women Speak. Dr. Garca 's community has honored her by naming a middle school after her.
Dr. Garca demonstrates the immense influence that education can have on empowering our community. We congratulate her on her tremendous leadership and for being such an excellent role model for our community.
Dr. Garcia will always hold a special place in my heart as she is the former board chair of Texas Campus Compact which is now C3 Texas.
