Now that we're back in full swing, we've noticed a significant surge in in-person visits over the past month. Small and medium Dutch businesses are increasingly making their way to our office to explore potential opportunities for expanding their presence in the Texan market.

We strive to provide assistance whenever possible by sharing tips, tricks, networking opportunities, and other resources to enhance their knowledge and support these business owners in their growth.

Past month
Dutch Approach to flood resilience in Houston
The SSPEED Center at Rice University hosted its yearly international conference, ‘Urban and Coastal Flooding: Building a Resilient Future’ on 12 and 13 October. The Dutch approach to flood resilience, with speakers and live Dutch temporary flood protection demos, was featured throughout the conference.
Water & Resilience Knowledge Exchange
The past month we were in The Netherlands for the Water & Resilience Knowledge Exchange mission. We were honored to introduce HCFCD, TWDB, City of Houston and TGLO to the annual test closure of the Maeslant Barrier and other Dutch flood protection icons and gain deeper understanding of the strategies employed to address urban and coastal flood resilience challenges in Texas.
Break Bulk 2023
Breakbulk Americas, the largest trade event in the region dedicated to the project cargo and breakbulk sector was a big success!

NBSO Texas went and visited the various Dutch companies that were there, Van der Vlist, Verstegen, Mammoet, Nemag, Kerger and Spliethoff. We're exploring ways to further elevate Dutch participation and make it stand out even more, next year.
The Dutch in Texas
Do I need a visa?
Are you planning to visit the Netherlands? Answer a few questions to find out if you need a visa in your situation. Sometimes, you may also require a residence permit. This depends on factors like your nationality and travel plans.
VFS Passport Service in Houston
You can book an appointment for passport application or renewal at the VFS Global center in Houston. VFS Global, an external service provider, is here to make the process more convenient for you. It's worth noting that this location has extended operating hours, providing more flexibility compared to the embassy in Washington D.C. and the consulates-general. It's important to note that an additional service fee will be applicable alongside the consular fee.
Visiting Washington
Economic Networking Days 2023
In September the annual Economic Networking Days took place.
We also welcomed our new ambassador-designate, Birgitta Tazelaar, a career diplomat with more than 30 years of experience in political affairs.
