History of the Texas Charts

The legitimate Texas Music radio charts have a rich history that might have been forgotten or is unknown to those new to the scene. Here's a brief history lesson.

2000: The REAL and ORIGINAL Texas Music Chart was started by Ed and Pam Shane to promote Texas artists and track their success on regional radio. It was published weekly for more than a decade until its final listing in 2016, due to Ed Shane's passing. Despite its closure, the chart's legacy lives on through the artists it promoted. Pam Shane still owns the AUTHENTIC Texas Music Chart name and publishes news stories on www.texasmusicchart.com. Recent imposters have emerged, attempting to steal the legacy, but history remains indelible.

2004: Industry veteran Dave Smith created the Texas Regional Radio Report (T3R) to provide credible recognition for Texas Red Dirt and Texas Country music. The T3R continues today and is the longest-running chart in Texas and Red Dirt Music. The goal remains true today as it was when it began:  to promote Texas and Red Dirt artists by tracking their airplay success on radio stations in Texas, nationwide, and online.

2016: The CDX Texas TRACtion Chart was launched to monitor and promote Texas and Red Dirt artist music singles through radio stations’ online streams, making it the first Texas Red Dirt monitoring system.

2019: The Texas Country Music Association (TCMA) started the Texas Country Music Chart to provide a platform for Texas Country artists to track their airplay on monitored radio stations through stations’ online streams.
