Celebrating a Legacy: Radio Friends Unite to Honor Doc Alexander

On Monday morning, the barrier of competition was gracefully set aside as KBCY’s Kelly Jay welcomed friends from various Abilene radio stations to honor the memory of Doc Alexander, who sadly passed away last week.

Among those gathered were Rudy “Fearless” Fernandez from KEAN, former KBCY personalities JB Cloud and Justin Case, Rock 108’s Frank Pain, Power 103’s Trace Michaels, and Kenny Mann from 102 The Bear. Each shared heartfelt stories about Doc, illuminating the impact he had as a shining light in their lives.

“He always had his sayings like, ‘The good word from the doc is what?’ and ‘Beware of the tail feathers on a duck; they’re there to hide the quack.’ I started to lose it when I saw all the guys and the camaraderie we shared back in the eighties and nineties—Doc was always the one making us laugh,” Fernandez reminisced, his voice filled with emotion.

Doc's three sons were present, absorbing the warmth and love pouring in from their father’s friends and colleagues.

“Everybody that was here just to tell a story of how much Doc meant in their lives is special," Kelly reflected.

This gathering was particularly poignant as it marked Kelly Jay’s first day back on the airwaves following the loss of his longtime friend and co-host. The radio family that welcomed him back was a touching surprise, organized to demonstrate their support and solidarity. It was a powerful reminder that even in a competitive industry, the bonds of friendship and mutual respect can transcend rivalries, uniting everyone in love for a shared mentor and friend.
