Saying Good-Bye to a Legend

Our Texas Music Hero Johnny Rodriguez, a pioneering Mexican-American country singer, passed away on May 9th at 73 years old. Known for hits like "Ridin’ My Thumb to Mexico," he had Six No. 1 singles and was inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame. Fellow country artist Kevin Fowler paid tribute, sharing a photo and remembering Rodriguez as his "little drinkin’ buddy" over the last 25 years. "Vaya Con Dios, amigo," he wrote. Rodriguez’s legacy will live on.

Tristan’s Texas Takeover

Texas Music newcomer Tristan Roberson marked a major milestone when his debut single, "Somewhere in Texas", claimed the #1 top spot on the Texas Regional Radio Report—coinciding with the release of his first album, One Night in Dallas. To celebrate, Roberson hosted an album release party in his hometown of Frisco, Texas, where he was honored with a No. 1 plaque by Texas Regional Radio Report CEO Dave Smith. The event drew several Texas Music program directors, including Will Payne of KITX, Buzz Russell of KNES/Fairfield, TX, Joe Rollica of IR Country.com, and Michael White of Real Texas Radio.com.

Howie's Highway

Texas Music artist Payton Howie is hitting the road with Lukas Nelson this summer, primarily touring along the East Coast. However, she’s currently joining him for select dates, including West Des Moines, IA, on May 15 and Kansas City, MO, on May 16.
