September 2016 Newsletter
Mike's Message
We have been busy this summer, and looking down the road it does not look as though we will be slowing down anytime soon.
Texas811 membership reached another milestone the morning after 811 Day - 1,600 members! We are humbled by the faith our members put in Texas811.  From our first member over thirty years ago to number 1,600, Texas811 remains true to our founding charter as a non-profit public safety entity - to protect and serve our members and the public.
811 Day 2016 was a big one! We stopped by Great Day Houston to explain to viewers the importance of using the 811 system, then we headed over to the block party in downtown Houston. While the Swag'n was passing out snow cones in Houston, we made an appearance with free shirts at the San Antonio Missions game. Our biggest event had to be the Texas Rangers game with Atmos Energy, where we passed out over 2,000 free shirts to spectators. To wrap up the night, we lit up the Omni Hotel in downtown Dallas with the Texas811 logo to welcome passersby to the DFW Metroplex.
The end of August means it's back to school time! A school supply drive was held at the Texas811 Contact Center and the supplies were passed out to our employees who could use the extra help. The generosity of our employees never ceases to amaze me! It was gratifying to see how the Texas811 family came together to support one another.
I want to congratulate our two contest winners: Greg Pennington and Glen Cooper! They each won a custom cedar beer tub by participating in our Facebook giveaway. Keep checking our social media pages for our next giveaway!
September is already looking to be a busy month, but thankfully, with cooler weather!
As always - thank you for your continued support and dedication to damage prevention.

Enjoy the news, and until next time, safe digging!

National 811 Day Events
Another National 811 day has come and gone - and once again Texas811 put on a dazzling show to remind everyone to call 811 before they dig.
We had so many 811 day events that we had to start a day early. On August 10th, the Texas811 family and Atmos Energy hosted a Texas Rangers baseball game at Globe Life Park. Talk about fun! Here's a highlight video put together by Texas811 videographer Jason Crocker. Watch him throwing the first pitch!
Prior to the game, FOX Sports Southwest took a few moments to interview Texas811 Director of Damage Prevention, JimBob Sims.
Texas811  President  Mike Losawyer  and  Amber Pappas  with  Enterprise Products  took National 811 Day to the Great Day Houston morning TV program on KHOU-TV in Houston. They told viewers how to use 811 before digging, even if for something as simple as setting a mailbox post. Here's a clip of the program.

After our TV appearance, we were part of a major block party in Houston for 811 day. Of course, the Texas811 Swag'n and crew were there to supply everyone with snow cones - very much appreciated in downtown Houston in August!
We also went down south to the San Antonio Missions game.
Finally, to cap off National 811 Day, the Texas811 logo scrolled across the 23 story side of the downtown Dallas Omni Hotel. The logo was up all night and could be seen for miles, reminding North Texans of the need to call 811 before they dig!

On the Road with Texas811

Of course, we don't just get out on National 811 Day. Here's a quick look at a few of our other appearances in August.
Damage Prevention Manager  Jaime Medina and Damage Prevention Agent  Jennifer Jaime Hooks anchored a Texas811 booth at the Nursery/Landscape EXPO in Houston Aug.18th - 20th.
Texas811 President Mike Losawyer represented Texas811 at the  Sunbelt Builders Show at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine TX. Thanks both to David and Gaye McElwain with the  Railroad Commission of Texas and to the representatives of the Regional Hispanic Contractors Association for their partnership and commitment to Damage Prevention in Texas.
And of course, August means back to school. Texas811 employees donated goods for needy kid's school bags, and we also attended the Permian Basin Regional School event.
Back to School
The first day of class always means all of those pictures showing up on Facebook of kids holding up their little signs for the proud parents. We're proud of our kids, too. Here's little Mikey Losawyer ready to hit the books!

In August we received 2,405 calls in Spanish. That means callers spoke directly with a Spanish speaker in our call center. We never outsource our bi-lingual calls.
That puts a wrap on this month's newsletter. If you've got an event coming up that we should give a shout out for, send an email.

Until next time, dig safe!
