On May 24, 2018, the ERC celebrated its 25th year of providing education and inspiring action to cultivate a healthy environment in Idaho's Wood River Valley.  The ERC could not have reached this incredible milestone without your generosity, passion, and dedication. THANK YOU!

In 2018, with the help of your contributions and our community partners, the ERC accomplished the following:

Youth Education
  • 3,800+ participants reached in over 130 programs.
  • 95% of programs offered free of charge.
  • Over $5,000 in scholarships disbursed to 60% of EcoCampers.
  • Partners included: College of Southern Idaho, Higher Ground Sun Valley, The Hunger Coalition, Sawtooth Botanical Garden, St. Luke's, Sun Valley Institute, WOW-Students, Wood River YMCA, and more!
Connecting People to Nature 
  • 2,200+ participants reached in over 45 programs.
  • 75% of programs offered free of charge or with a suggested donation.
  • Programs included: birding and tracking workshops, snowshoe tours, nature walks, lectures, film showings, gallery walks, Earth Day events, and our annual Street Party for the Planet.
  • Partners included: Limelight Hotel Ketchum, The Community Library, The Nature Conservancy, The Senior Connection, Sun Valley Company, and more!
Pesticide Action  
  • 1,000+ participants reached in free programming.
  • Maintained the Wood River Bio-Control Insectary that is growing spotted knapweed-eating insects, as well as mapped and monitored noxious weed populations.
  • Hosted educational workshops and awareness events, facilitated noxious weed pulls and native plant seedings, and created educational resources.
  • Partners included: Blaine County, Bureau of Land Management, Sun Valley Center for the Arts, U.S. Forest Service, Wood River Land Trust, and more!
Recycling Outreach & Action   
  • 17,000+ community members reached at over 50 events.
  • 5,500 gallons of glass, aluminum, and plastic diverted from the landfill at local events.
  • 1,000 pounds of batteries and electronics collected at the ERC office for recycling through 150 individual drop offs.
  • Partners included: Blaine County, Clear Creek Disposal, City of Ketchum, Cox Communications, Hailey Public Library, Ketchum Arts Festival, Sun Valley Wellness Festival, Wood River Valley Farmers' Market, and more!
Pick Up for the Planet (PUP)  
  • Provided educational signage, weekly bin maintenance, and free dog waste bags to 16 popular valley-wide trailheads.
  • Diverted 300+ 33-gallon bags of dog waste from the trails - a total that increases annually.
  • Worked with students from the Blaine County School District, The Community School, and The Sage School to conduct trail clean ups and create educational resources.
