Dear Student Affairs Team,
Thank you to all who were able to join us for our latest Roundtable discussions this week! We sincerely appreciate your time, energy, and continued engagement throughout our Realignment.
During the Roundtables, we introduced the ‘Curiosity Curve.’ The ‘Curiosity Curve’ is a tool that encourages people to pause and gauge where they’re at on the curve before entering a high-stakes or change-related conversation. It allows each of us to reflect on how open we are to conversing with others.
Following our conversation on the ‘Curiosity Curve’, we shared additional information regarding some immediate changes within Student Affairs that took effect as of September 1. A reminder that these changes might not yet be live in Workday, but they are live in spirit. Those changes include:
-
Finalizing job descriptions for Regional and District Director roles, which are now under review with HR for posting, and slated to post September 19 in our internal WorkDay Job posting site
-
Transitioning several student-facing services into the Student Affairs Organizational Structure under the appropriate Associate Vice Chancellor/Executive Dean leadership
- Additionally, Advising supervisors, their teams, and Success Coaches will report to the Executive Dean of Advising Services, Kathy James
- Shifting budget authority to the Associate Vice Chancellors and Executive Deans
- Opening all Student Affairs Suites—including Advising, Admissions & Records, Financial Aid, and Intake- for in-person services Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (at a minimum) in response to our historic 10% enrollment surge
- Rebalancing Fridays, previously reserved for professional development (PD), to balance PD with student needs, with more details forthcoming.
As we prepare for hiring waves across Student Affairs in the coming months, our Talent Development team is offering a professional development opportunity to help everyone feel interview-ready. You’ll learn the STAR method, a proven framework for giving clear, concise responses to behavioral interview questions that showcase your skills and qualifications. The session will also include dedicated time to plan and practice your own interview responses. This opportunity is open to anyone interested - not just those who plan to apply for an upcoming director role or a different position within Student Affairs. A recorded version of the training will be made available for those unable to attend one of the sessions.
