Wes Choplin

On Tuesday, January 18, we had the distinguished honor of recognizing the Town's annual Mayor's Award of Excellence recipient, Wes Choplin.

Wes is best known for being the owner and Chef of Choplin's: Steak & Seafood, where every day he serves countless patrons.

It's no secret that good food can put a smile on anyone's face, but during the first few months of the COVID-19 pandemic, Wes found a way to make his food and the subsequent smiles go a little further.

He and his team took it upon themselves to serve meals to students who had been relegated to online learning. Throughout the 2020-2021 school year, they averaged 700 meals weekly that families could either pick up or have delivered.

Wes said that he started this initiative to give students a sense of normalcy and something to look forward to. Many students were left with feelings of uncertainty when the pandemic began, unable to see their classmates and friends, and younger schoolchildren didn't fully understand why circumstances had become so strange.

His thoughtfulness, compassion, and innovation are all exemplary characteristics of the Cornelius Way. In unprecedented times, unprecedented actions are necessary, and we're grateful to Wes for stepping up and making such a great difference in our community.

HEADS UP CORNELIUS!

Close calls happen too often, and it doesn’t have to be that way.

Our streets are there for all of us to get around; motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians alike. When you change the way you think about your daily commute, you ensure that it isn’t you or someone you love on the other end of that close call.

Heads Up Cornelius: Your Streets. Your Town. Your Responsibility.

HOORAY FOR AAA

S_P.png

The Town has once again received a AAA Bond Rating from Standard & Poor's - the highest credit rating any institution can receive.

This rating is a reflection of "robust management practices, long-term planning, very strong institutional framework” and year-over-year contributions to fund balance.

Additionally, S&P indicated a stable outlook relative to the Town “effectively managing growth and capital needs.” This rating means that residents can feel confident in the Town’s financial management.

This rating also lowers borrowing costs when the Town issues bonds.
