Dear Ones,

I pray you are well.

Today, I invite you to join The RE-Humanization Project on September 1 for our next Prayer Vigil in honor of Labor Day. We were very heartened by the turnout for our July 4 Prayer Vigil and it helped us realize: to do the work of helping people in a variety of ways, we need to intentionally return to prayer as the source of our actions again and again and again. So every other month, we will offer a Vigil in connection with important parts of our life together.

So on September 1, we will give thanks for all those who work. We will honor especially those who work under difficult circumstances, those who do work that many of us can't or won't do, those who work for too little pay, those who do not get to rest as we all should.

We are a nation built upon the labors of many, and so we cannot ever de-value the peoples who provide for us in so many ways. It's easy sometimes to see some jobs as more important than others, but as we saw during the pandemic, essential workers extends far beyond what we often think of. So give thanks today for those who grow and pick our food, that clean and care for our homes and businesses, who tend to the elderly, sick, and dying in care facilities, who teach our children, who stock our shelves at the grocery stores. Each of those persons deserves the same dignity as anyone else.

This is one way we can be part of our RE-Humanization Project. By seeing one another as whole and deserving; and to be filled with gratitude for the gifts and offerings of one and all. I hope you will mark your calendar, bring friends, and join us on Monday, September 1, at 4pm, to honor Labor Day.

PS: A big thank you to all who sang with the summer pick-up choir during July! You are wonderful!

Espero que se encuentren bien.

Hoy les invito a unirse al Proyecto RE-Humanización el 1 de septiembre para nuestra próxima Vigilia de Oración en honor al Día del Trabajo. Nos sentimos muy animados por la asistencia a nuestra Vigilia de Oración del 4 de julio y nos ayudó a darnos cuenta de que, para ayudar a las personas de diversas maneras, necesitamos volver intencionadamente a la oración como fuente de nuestras acciones una y otra vez. Por eso, cada dos meses, ofreceremos una vigilia relacionada con aspectos importantes de nuestra vida en común.

Así, el 1 de septiembre daremos gracias por todos aquellos que trabajan. Honraremos especialmente a aquellos que trabajan en circunstancias difíciles, a aquellos que realizan trabajos que muchos de nosotros no podemos o no queremos hacer, a aquellos que trabajan por un salario demasiado bajo, a aquellos que no pueden descansar como todos deberíamos.

Somos una nación construida sobre el trabajo de muchos, por lo que nunca podemos menospreciar a las personas que nos proporcionan tantas cosas. A veces es fácil considerar que algunos trabajos son más importantes que otros, pero, como hemos visto durante la pandemia, los trabajadores esenciales van mucho más allá de lo que solemos pensar. Así que hoy demos gracias por aquellos que cultivan y recolectan nuestros alimentos, que limpian y cuidan nuestros hogares y negocios, que atienden a los ancianos, enfermos y moribundos en centros de cuidados, que enseñan a nuestros hijos, que reponen los estantes de los supermercados. Cada una de esas personas merece la misma dignidad que cualquier otra.

Esta es una forma en la que podemos formar parte de nuestro Proyecto de RE-Humanización. Viéndonos unos a otros como seres completos y dignos, y llenándonos de gratitud por los dones y ofrendas de todos y cada uno. Espero que lo apunte en su calendario, traiga a sus amigos y se una a nosotros el lunes 1 de septiembre a las 4 de la tarde para celebrar el Día del Trabajo.

We need readers, chalice-bearers, ushers, altar guild, acolytes and more, so mark the date and come have some fun!

Also, if you have old pill bottles, they are great to help distribute hygiene products in smaller amounts so bring them in when they’re empty!

The art show this summer is “The Bees Knees,” “Aces,” “Swell,” “Neato,” “Far Out,” “Gnarly,” “Awesome,” “Hot,” and “Lit.” Feel free to choose the adjective from your youth!

Our summer exhibit in the Olney Gallery is a photographic and artistic history of our beloved Cathedral, as well as some of the people who worshipped here.

Prayers of the People

Oración de los Fieles

We pray for peace,

for goodwill among nations, and for the well-being of all people. We pray for our President and for the Congress, the Cabinet, and the Supreme Court. We pray for justice and peace, particularly in Gaza, Iran, and in Ukraine.

We ask your prayers for the poor,

the sick, the hungry, the oppressed, and those in prison, particularly those who are being removed from this country without due process and those being removed in spite of being in legal immigration processes. We pray for all those who are afraid in these times.

We commend to your mercy all who have died, particularly Alfredo Gutierrez, that your will for them may be fulfilled; and we pray that we may share with all your saints in your eternal kingdom.

We pray for: Surya, Kay, Jeff, Gloria, Karl, Jill, Jonathan, Laura.

We give thanks for those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries this week.

Oremos para la paz,

por la buena voluntad de naciones, y para el bienestar de todos pueblos. Rezamos por nuestro Presidente y por el Congreso, el Gabinete y el Tribunal Supremo. Rezamos por la justicia y la paz, especialmente en Gaza, Iran, y Ucrania.

Pedimos tus oraciones para los con recursos limitados,

los enfermos, los hambrientos, los oprimidos y los encarcelados, en particular los que están siendo expulsados de este país sin el debido proceso y los que están siendo expulsados a pesar de estar en procesos legales de inmigración. Rezamos por todos los que tienen miedo en estos tiempos.
