125-Year Celebration a Success!

Thank you, Neighborhood Volunteers!!

Wow! The 125th anniversary celebration was an amazing amount of work, but even more wonderful were the number of neighbors who volunteered and made it happen. They hauled chairs and tables to the event and back again, served as cashiers, manned booths, monitored the bus, and pitched in to help with the clean-up. Volunteers also transported all of the remaining items to the non-profit "Safe Shift". Without them, it could not have happened. All proceeds will go to neighborhood projects.

It was so rewarding to visit with neighbors old and new. Many came to discuss their history as current or former residents of Jefferson Park. Several members of Annie Lester's family were present, and we shall follow up with them. Such a great event!

Welcome Tent - T-shirts, welcome packets, and information about historic properties were available. Thanks, Hank and Trish.

Gourd Tent - Gourds were a Hit! Also JP History books and SAMOS books. Thanks, Fran and Joanne.

Silent Auction and " Flea Market" tables. Lots of folks purchased a variety of items, and anything left was donated to the non-profit "Safe Shift". Thanks to Mary, Colleen, Sue, Liz, Kat, April, Emily, Laurel-Heather, Rosemary, Trish, and Joan for set-up, cashiering and monitoring, set-up, and take-down. Thanks as well to Cindy and Judy for helping with the planning of the event.

Set up and take down--Hot day-huge task! Thank you to the muscle Hank, Zac and Dave, Ben, Zach, Cole, Ken, Mike, Bob, and all the other husbands, sons, and friends conscripted to help.

Neighbor donors - Thank you one and all!

Ms. Garcia's Spanish Club: The students sold goodies and lemonade, and joined in the festivities.

IST: Thank you for use of the school campus, and to Mr. Burger, a special thanks for giving up his weekend to help us plan and set up the event.

Community Booths with lots of information and free goodies.

TEP UPDATE - City said "NO" to overhead lines

The Board of Adjustment met on October 25 and upheld the Zoning Administrator's 2021 decision that TEP will have to go underground on Kino/Campbell, a gateway route. Thank you, City, for holding firm! However, TEP will surely take their case to Superior Court. We'll share updates about the process as we get them.

If the proposed Vine substation remains in the planned location, Jefferson Park runs the very real risk of 138 kV lines and poles down Vine or Park to Grant. TEP indicated that they might consider moving the substation if they can find a suitable lot. That needs to happen, or lines should be undergrounded in a historic neighborhood. This issue continues to be a critical concern for Jefferson Park.

TEP will attend the Jefferson Park neighborhood meeting on Wednesday, November 15, 6:00pm at the Ward III office or via Zoom.

The next TEP Public Open House is Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Doubletree Hotel—Reid Park, 445 S. Alvernon Way, Tucson, AZ 85711.

6 p.m. — Open house begins.

7 p.m. — Presentation begins.
