Pastor Rodney Bowden from Rooted in Christ connected First Serve with Cindy and Tom Hill, a family in need of a safer entrance to their home due to ongoing mobility challenges. First Serve’s Annual Day of Service provided the perfect opportunity to take on this project, led by Project Leader Mark Johnson.
What began as a plan to replace a sinking deck and collapsed staircase quickly evolved into something even more meaningful—a collaboration between First Serve volunteers, men of Truly Reaching You and youth of First Congregational Church of Hudson to build a new ramp and porch together. With the mobility challenges the Hills were facing, along with the needs of their daughter-in-law who recently suffered a severe stroke, it was clear a ramp would make all the difference. Volunteers from First Serve and men from the organization Truly Reaching You began the work, while First Congregational Church’s Youth Mission Trip Committee faithfully finished the project over several days. Together, they created a safe and easy access for the family—and a powerful reminder of what can happen when people come together to care for one another.
