“Every family deserves to feel safe in their own home.”
Dear friend,
By the time you read this, federal immigration raids may already be underway in and around New Orleans and across our state.
For many families, the fear we’ve been warning about is no longer a possibility—it’s their everyday reality.
Parents are deciding whether it’s safe to drive to work or take their children to school. Children—U.S.-born kids who sit in our classrooms and pews—are asking if their mom or dad will still be there tonight.
In the last few months, we’ve seen:
Three U.S.-citizen children deported from Louisiana, including a two-year-old and a four-year-old with stage-four cancer.
A mother of two in Hammond taken from a minor traffic stop, shackled hand, waist, and ankles, and sent to a detention center hours away.
This is what enforcement looks like on the ground. And this is why LORI is mobilizing as fast as we can.
