How LORI is Responding to Protect and Support Our Neighbors and Communities this Holiday!

Dear Friend,

Our communities have been hit again and again this year.

We’ve watched neighbors and loved ones taken by federal agents, sometimes without warning. We’ve seen immigrant youth and parents detained, even when they’ve lived, studied, and worked here for years. We’ve seen new laws and budget cuts rip health care, food, and basic stability away from families who are just trying to survive and contribute.

And now, we are hearing of intensified ICE operations and federal deployments in New Orleans and other Louisiana cities. Families are stocking up on food and staying inside. Parents are quietly asking:

“If I’m taken, who will pick up my children? Who will make sure they’re safe?”

In the face of all this, you have been our lifeline.

Because of people like you, LORI has been able to:

  • Support refugee and immigrant leaders to organize in their neighborhoods, churches, and schools.
  • Provide immigration legal support and trusted referrals so families are not alone in the system.
  • Mobilize mutual aid – food, diapers, rent support – when families lose income overnight.
  • Create youth engagement and leadership spaces so young people can turn fear into power and purpose.

Now, we need you again.

We are racing to open and fully activate the Well Community Center – LORI’s new humanity center and mutual aid hub – as a safe space where families can:

  • Gather without fear,
  • Learn their rights and make family safety plans,
  • Meet with trusted lawyers and advocates, and
  • Access food, diapers, hygiene supplies, and emergency support during this crisis.

Will you make a donation today to help LORI protect immigrant and mixed-status families in Louisiana and open the Well Community Center as a true safe space?

Give now to support LORI

Your gift will help us:

  • Run Know Your Rights workshops and “plan for your children” clinics for parents.
  • Staff the Well Community Center with bilingual community navigators who can guide families through this moment.
  • Expand our mutual aid and emergency response, getting food and essentials to families who are too afraid to leave home.
  • Sustain youth leadership and organizing, so the next generation can lead with courage instead of trauma.

When masked men and federal agents show up in our neighborhoods, they send a message of fear:

"You don’t belong. You’re not safe here".

When LORI opens its doors and stands with families, we send a different message:

"You are our neighbors. Your children matter. Your family belongs in Louisiana. You will not face this alone".

If you are able, please give today:

Donate to LORI and the Well Community Center

In a year when so many of our communities have been attacked, your generosity is an act of protection, solidarity, and love.
