We want to thank you for celebrating Second Chance Month with us.

Along with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs’ Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) and Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, as well as the National Reentry Resource Center, we elevated resources, virtual events, videos, and publications to raise awareness of the need to reduce barriers and offer second chances to people reentering their communities.

In case you missed it, check out our highlights from this month and the resources we shared.

Highlights

Welcome Missouri, the first state to sign on to Reentry 2030. The Missouri Department of Corrections is partnering with us and BJA and plans to support incarcerated people in finding and maintaining employment after release. The Second Chance Act: Advancing Successful Reentry and Public Safety congressional briefing on Capitol Hill brought together members of Congress, people who have experienced reentry, and other practitioners and experts who reflected on the impact of the Second Chance Act. Panelists discussed the critical need for reentry services and evidence-based solutions to reduce recidivism, highlighting the benefits of the Second Chance Act. They also shared successes from grantees who have used this funding to rebuild lives and communities.

We met with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction to discuss how cross-sector partnerships have built a strong, model corrections department-led reentry housing program. Returning Home Ohio and related programs are now expanding to new, more rural counties via the Second Chance Act Pay for Success Grant Program.
