Greetings, Friends!

We would like to thank everyone who came to Thursday’s Say Yes to Invest Legislative Event and those of you who were unable to make it but were able to display your support!

On Thursday, housing advocates, community leaders, and State Legislators, including RI House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi, gathered at the State House to discuss the importance of building, preserving, and removing barriers to accessing safe, healthy and affordable homes for Rhode Islanders.

Speaker Joe Shekarchi made strong remarks about continuing to prioritize housing, stopping NIMBYism, and working together to reduce barriers to development of affordable housing across the state. We thank Speaker Shekarchi for his transformative leadership and commitment to addressing the challenges both in policy and in investments in housing.

We also thank Senator Frank Lombardo III, Representative June Speakman, and Representative Karen Alzate for their thoughtful speeches demonstrating the importance of decent and affordable homes as a foundation for a stronger Rhode Island.

We are grateful to our community speakers for providing their expertise and advocacy:

  • Jen Hawkins, ONE | Neighborhood Builders
  • Ehren Hunt, Tri-County Community Action
  • Jessica Vega, West Elmwood Housing
  • Devra Levy, Childhood Lead Action Project
  • Dr. Larry Warner, United Way of RI

Thursday was a success in displaying support for affordable homes across Rhode Island! Now we want to keep up the momentum! Help us by sending State Leaders a message using our pre-written letter tool and utilizing our Say Yes to Invest social media toolkit.
