Thank You to Our Amazing Volunteers

Volunteering weaves us together. A single strand of thread is pretty and functional – but when you weave many threads together, you create something unique that is colorful, vibrant and strong!

Whether you have sorted donations at our ReStore, lifted a hammer on a build, served on a committee or board, or advocated for affordable housing, we thank-you!

Happy Earth Day!

Let's take a moment to appreciate this beautiful planet we call home and commit to protecting it for future generations. One way to make a difference is by donating your old car to support affordable housing in your local community.

Your vehicle doesn't even have to run. Donating an old vehicle can also help reduce greenhouse gases and protect the planet.

Home # 131

Two days before her birthday, with her family, staff, volunteers, donors, and community members, we celebrated Shada and the hard work and perseverance she put into becoming a homeowner.

The last, and greatest gift of all… the key to her brand new home – the place her family can finally call their own. Shada then cut the ribbon off her new front door, symbolizing the opening of a new chapter in her life and just how many doors that key will open.

Home is the Key

In 2023, the U.S. faced record unaffordability, near-record housing shortages, and major barriers to first-time homeownership. This only exacerbated the structural and deep-seated racial inequality within the U.S. housing market. Systemic discrimination in housing and lending policies is a prime engine of social and economic inequality among Black families, and we must address it as individuals, as organizations, as communities and as a nation.

To break the cycle of injustice, we must join forces with our neighbors to develop more inclusive communities, increase the availability of affordable homes near public transportation and jobs, and transform concentrated areas of poverty into areas of opportunity so that all residents of the community can benefit.

Home is the key to a better future

Shelter is not a privilege – it’s a need. Decent, affordable housing plays a key role in a family’s education, health, wealth and well-being. However, not every household has the same opportunities to succeed.

Many families have been locked out for too long

Homeownership is a key driver of American household wealth. But structural inequality in the U.S. housing market has made the Black-white and Latino-white homeownership gaps wider than they were when the Fair Housing Act passed in 1968.

Join Habitat in creating inclusive communities

Support Habitat’s affordable housing work through Home is the Key, proceeds of which will support diversity, equity and inclusion.
